About Midmar Quarry
Midmar Quarry is a stone quarry in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, producing crushed stone and aggregate products to supply the construction industry across the region. We run three crushing and screening plants and take pride in the reliability of our equipment and the safety of our team.
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Fitter to join our maintenance team and keep our crushing and screening plants running at their best. You'll carry out planned maintenance, diagnose and fix breakdowns fast, and help us install and improve equipment across the site.
What You'll Do
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on crushers, screens, conveyors, gearboxes, and bearings across our three plants.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns quickly and correctly to get production back up and running.
- Fit, fabricate, and assemble mechanical and structural components using welding and hand/power tools.
- Support installation of new equipment and plant improvement projects.
- Follow correct lockout/isolation procedures and keep the workshop safe, clean, and organised.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Foreman, boilermakers, and electrician to plan daily priorities.
- Keep accurate maintenance records of work done, parts used, and time taken.
What You'll Bring
Essential:
- At least 3 years' post-trade test experience, ideally in a quarry, mine, or heavy industrial plant.
- Solid knowledge of crushing and screening equipment, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and work confidently with hand and power tools.
- Medically fit for work in a mining environment, and willing to undergo required medicals.
Advantageous:
- A National Certificate in Machine Shop Engineering or similar.
- Experience specifically on crushing plant equipment (jaw, cone, or impact crushers).
- A valid driver's licence.
- Basic hydraulics and pneumatics fault-finding experience.
