Job description
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Mechanical Project Engineer to lead the installation and commissioning of special-purpose machinery and industrial automation projects. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys spending time on-site, taking ownership of project execution, leading installation teams, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with customers, design engineers, and internal teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of projects while providing practical engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and supervise mechanical installation and commissioning activities on customer sites.
· Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and resources to ensure efficient project execution.
· Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to customer specifications.
· Provide technical guidance and hands-on support during installations, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
· Liaise with customers throughout project execution and maintain strong client relationships.
· Conduct site inspections, progress meetings, and quality checks.
· Coordinate equipment deliveries, materials, and site logistics.
· Assist with project planning, scheduling, and reporting.
· Support the preparation of quotations and technical proposals when required.
· Coordinate maintenance call-outs and after-sales support where necessary.
· Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges on-site.
· Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
· Travel to customer sites throughout South Africa as required.
· Minimum Requirements
· National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering qualification.
· 3–7 years' experience in mechanical project engineering, industrial automation, manufacturing, or special-purpose machinery.
· Proven experience leading installations and managing site activities.
· Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
· Valid driver's licence.
· Willingness to travel within South Africa on occasion.
