Mechanical Specialist (South Africa)

What we need?

Mechanical Specialist will supervise and manage the mechanical maintenance activities in the plant, including preventative and corrective maintenance, planning for shutdowns, and overhauling work activities; organizing maintenance, troubleshooting and modification of all mechanical machinery in accordance with overall maintenance plans, HSE guidelines and quality standards to ensure plant availability and machine reliability.

Maintenance Management:

• Monitor the mechanical preventive and corrective maintenance and overhauling work activities to ensure safe and efficient application of procedures and implementation of optimal mechanical maintenance.
• Ensure that all documentation is completed in SAP correctly such as the Log, outlining the fault, method of repair and the time, labor and materials used in order to support timely availability of information.
• Manage the timely response to all emergency breakdowns and provide prompt corrective action to ensure plant availability, thereby minimizing downtime and possibility of liquidity damages.
• Develop and promote a condition based preventive maintenance culture on day to day basis by conducting troubleshooting and root cause analyses, finding solutions to reduce reactive maintenance.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment:

• Adhere to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls and implement the same to vendors/contractors through PO terms so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.

Attributes:

• Practical experience and know-how of mechanical engineering
• Knowledge of downtime analysis and practical knowledge of problem solving tools
• Knowledge of maintenance management methods, of predictive inspection tools and of CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System, good knowledge of SAP Template desirable)
• Project Management
• Fulfill an advisory role to the Mechanical department including but not limited to mentoring, coaching and people management
• Ensure that all machinery under mechanical responsibility is running at optimal capacity
• Comprehensive knowledge of piping design, boilers, compressors, pumps, etc
• Detailed understanding of preventative/predictive maintenance theory
• Knowledge of the operations in water desalination and power generation plants and of NOMAC operations
• Strong planning, organizing, and integration skills
• Team work and effective collaboration skills

Who will fit?

• Bachelor degree holder in Mechanical Engineering
• 10-12 years’ experience in Mechanical Maintenance in water desalination and power generation plants where 2 years of experience are in a advisory role
