Job description
We are looking for an Mechanical Supervisor to join our dynamic team at MC Design. The Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for leading and coordinating all mechanical installation, fabrication, piping, structural steel, equipment installation, commissioning and maintenance activities across multiple projects. The role serves as the technical lead for the mechanical discipline while providing supervisory support to the electrical team when required to ensure successful project delivery.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong planning, communication and problem-solving skills, capable of supervising multidisciplinary teams and maintaining project continuity in the absence of the Electrical Supervisor.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
MECHANICAL (PRIMARY)
- Lead all mechanical installation and fabrication activities on site.
- Supervise boilermakers, pipe fitters, welders, riggers and mechanical artisans.
- Plan and coordinate piping, structural steel, equipment installation and mechanical shutdown work.
- Interpret mechanical drawings and fabrication drawings.
- Ensure all mechanical work complies with specifications, client requirements and quality standards.
- Monitor welding quality, pressure testing, alignment and mechanical commissioning.
- Identify and resolve mechanical site issues efficiently.
- Coordinate material requirements and mechanical resources.
- Ensure mechanical completion is achieved within project deadlines.
ELECTRICAL OVERSIGHT (SECONDARY)
- Provide supervisory oversight of electrical teams when required.
- Coordinate electrical installation activities with mechanical works.
- Ensure electrical work is completed according to project schedules.
- Liaise with the Electrical Supervisor, Contracts Manager and clients regarding progress.
- Assist with planning electrical shutdowns and commissioning activities.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures and permit systems.
- Escalate technical electrical matters to the Electrical Supervisor or Engineering team where required.
- Stand in for the Electrical Supervisor during periods of leave or absence to maintain operational continuity.
GENERAL
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Plan labour requirements and daily work allocation.
- Monitor project costs, productivity and labour efficiency.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Ensure quality control inspections are completed.
- Manage subcontractors where applicable.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly progress reports.
- Attend client meetings and site coordination meetings.
- Mentor apprentices and junior artisans.
- Assist with project planning and commissioning activities.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Project Engineer
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified Mechanical Trade Test (Boilermaker, Fitter, Millwright or Pipe Fitter).
- 5 years' experience supervising mechanical installation projects.
- Strong experience within industrial, manufacturing or automotive environments.
- Extensive experience in Structural steel installation, Pipework, Mechanical equipment installation, Welding and fabrication, Plant shutdowns and Mechanical commissioning
- Sound understanding of electrical installation principles.
- Previous experience supervising multidisciplinary teams will be advantageous.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Own transport.
- Willing to travel and work away from home.
