Mechanical Technician

Aqunion Group, the largest aquaculture company in South Africa is a subsidiary of the JSE listed Sea Harvest Group, that farms, processes, markets and sells South African Abalone to the South-East Asian market. The business currently comprises two tank-ashore farms, a processing facility, feed manufacturing company, and sea-based ranching operations, operating across the Overberg Region and Northern Cape, respectively.

We invite applications for the position of Mechanical Technician, currently available within Aqunion Processing Facility. The position will be based in the Overberg Region (Hermanus area).

Primary purpose of position

Assisting the Processing Manager, within the constructs of Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, with all Repairs and Maintenance functions, including project planning, welding, PVC and steel pipe work and general housekeeping.

Minimum Requirements & Competencies

• Grade 12 and relevant N3 technical qualification and a minimum of 3-5 years' work experience;
• Technical experience in a manufacturing / food processing environment is preferred;
• Competent welder with all round repairs and maintenance experience;
• Experience in the supervision of staff;
• A valid unendorsed driver’s license and own reliable transport are preferred;
• Good written and oral communication skills, with fluency in English;
• Excellent planning and organizational skills;
• Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft suite at intermediate level;
• Willingness to work and operate in a 24/7 working environment within a structured framework – operationally driven;
• Ability to perform standby and/or callout duties when required;
• Physically fit and willing to work in outdoor conditions;
• Contactable references.
