Mechanician

Job Summary

We are urgently seeking a skilled Mechanician. The successful candidate will handle mechanical production, maintenance, repairs, stock control, and safety responsibilities within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This role requires strong technical ability, precision, and the capacity to meet strict production deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Production

• Perform milling, drilling, and precision mechanical work to required standards.
• Assemble enclosures according to production schedules.
• Supervise and train the Mechanical Production Officer.
• Maintain accurate production documentation.
• Conduct tool maintenance and replacements.

Maintenance & Safety

• General upkeep and repair of company premises (buildings, plumbing, electrical, solar, CCTV).
• Replace and maintain gate motors, locks, and related systems.
• Operate lathe, milling machines, welding equipment, and workshop machinery.
• Perform painting and structural maintenance.
• Audit safety procedures and act as Safety Officer under OHASA.

Stock Control

• Order mechanical components, leather bags, front panels, and related materials.
• Maintain stock levels of mechanical components and semi‑finished assemblies.
• Inspect delivered components.
• Conduct stock takes and supervise delegated stock tasks.
• Manage Schaffler and Beethoven stock and repairs.

Service & Repairs

• Quote and repair Schaffler and Beethoven exploders.
• Perform general mechanical, electrical, and electro‑mechanical repairs.

General Duties

• Maintain a clean, functional, and ergonomic work area.
• Follow company procedures and standards at all times.
• Assist with additional tasks when required (QA, certification).
• Set up factories for fuse head manufacturing, welding processes, and electronic detonator production.
• Compile SOPs.
• Advantageous: Ability to operate and program a laser cutter.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Minimum:

• Electrical/Mechanical N3
• Trade Test – Fitter

Ideal:

• Full Trade Test (Millwright / Instrument Mechanician / Electro‑Mechanical)

Training

• Minimum: On‑the‑job training
• Ideal: Internal or external technical courses

Experience

• Experience operating a lathe and milling machine.
• Experience in electrical field (Millwright background).
• Experience in mechanical production, maintenance, and repairs.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong mechanical and electro‑mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
• Welding, plumbing, basic electrical repairs
• Solar and CCTV maintenance
• High attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
