Location & Term : Cape Town; Full-time (Monday – Friday; Permanent; On-site)

Job Overview:

The Medical Reporting Nurse is responsible for transforming patient records into accurate, compliant, and meaningful medical reports through effective record curation, clinical review, quality assurance, and sign-off. They ensure that relevant healthcare information is appropriately disclosed, contextualised, and presented in accordance with legal requirements, professional standards, and client needs.

The role plays a critical part in safeguarding patient confidentiality, supporting clinical governance, managing clinical risk, and maintaining operational excellence. Medical Reporting Nurses also contribute to the continuous improvement of Lalu's services by identifying process and system enhancements, developing best-practice guidance, supporting the onboarding and development of new employees, and promoting high standards across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Report Review & Sign-Off

  • Conduct electronic review and sign-off of medical reports, including SARs, insurance reports, DWP reports, MOD reports, legal aid requests, court disclosures, police requests, occupational health reports, and other client-specific report types.
  • Curate medical reports to ensure relevant information is appropriately identified, organised, and presented in accordance with the report type, client requirements, and legal framework.
  • Apply professional judgement to assess the accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of information contained within reports.
  • Review patient records, including demographics, consultations, medications, immunisations, investigations, correspondence, and uploaded documentation, ensuring all relevant information is accurately presented.
  • Apply appropriate redaction and disclosure decisions in line with consent, safeguarding requirements, legal obligations, and organisational policy.
  • Identify and escalate complex clinical, safeguarding, or disclosure concerns where further review is required.

Quality, Compliance & Patient Safety

  • Ensure all reports comply with relevant legislation, including GDPR, the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records requirements, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain the highest standards of patient confidentiality, information governance, and data security.
  • Support the identification, reporting, investigation, and learning arising from incidents, near misses, and quality concerns.
  • Contribute to the management of clinical and operational risks through active participation in risk identification and mitigation activities.

Service Delivery

  • Prioritise workload effectively to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and client expectations.
  • Deliver high-quality report reviews within agreed turnaround times while maintaining attention to detail and clinical accuracy.
  • Collaborate with operational, clinical, and quality teams to ensure consistent and effective decision-making.

Clinical Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in Clinical Forum activities and contribute to discussions relating to clinical governance, safeguarding, audit, quality assurance, data management, and professional standards.
  • Support clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and quality outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, workflows, and quality assurance practices, contributing to the continuous enhancement of service delivery.
  • Provide feedback on system functionality and user experience, supporting the identification, testing, and implementation of system improvements and new features.
  • Support the induction, onboarding, and ongoing development of new employees by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and contributing to training activities.
  • Maintain professional registration, continuing professional development (CPD), and knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and clinical best practice.
