Job description
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting nPOC (near point of care) testing and external quality control, and data management.
Technical Work Responsibilities
- Conduct TB nPOC testing on sputum samples and tongue swabs.
- Perform quality assurance related testing and processes for the nPOC program; recording and reporting thereof.
- Ensure equipment are cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer’s Instructions.
- Manage stock of nPOC test kits and consumables.
- Adhere to prescribed infection control measures.
- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly workspace.
- Work collaboratively with the facility TB nurse, refer all clients that are eligible for referral, and work with the laboratory to ensure seamless specimen and results pathways.
- Accurately records, captures information on the data base for reporting.
- Accurately completes and manages a variety of reports as required by regulators.
Education
- Certificate in Medical Laboratory technician.
Advantageous
- GCP Certificate.
- A diploma or degree.
- Clinical or research experience in the health system.
- Registration with HPCSA as a Medical/ Lab Technician.
Experience
- Six months experience in specimen processing.
Requirements
- Understanding of the health system.
- Driver’s License.
- Own Vehicle.
- Efficient in Microsoft office, Word, Excel and Spreadsheet.
- Fluet in the local languages.
