Job description
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Health and Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, maintaining and monitoring Health and Safety systems while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, company standards and customer-specific safety requirements within the mining and processing industry.
Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Health and Safety Officer within the mining and processing industry
- Minimum 3 years' experience supervising or managing personnel
- Relevant Health and Safety qualification
- SAMTRAC Certificate
- Incident and Accident Investigation training
- National Diploma in Safety Management (advantageous)
- Valid South African Driver's Licence
- Willingness to travel extensively to customer sites
Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate must have sound knowledge of:
- Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- ISO 4001 & 9001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
- SANS standards
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA)
- Safe Work Procedure development and implementation
- Incident and accident investigations
- Internal Health and Safety audits
- Legal compliance within mining operations
- Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office)

Key Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a strong Health and Safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, company procedures and customer requirements.
- Develop, review and implement Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and Safe Work Procedures.
- Conduct workplace inspections, planned task observations and internal Health and Safety audits.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses, prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain employee legal compliance documentation, including medical fitness certificates, inductions, legal appointments and competency records.
- Develop, maintain and audit customer-compliant Safety Files.
- Conduct Health and Safety inductions, toolbox talks and employee training.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.
- Monitor compliance with Health and Safety procedures at all operational sites.
- Ensure all required Health and Safety records, reports and registers are accurately maintained.
- Conduct regular site visits and provide guidance and support to supervisors and employees.
Assist management in achieving Health and Safety objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
