MIT a leading supplier of production line equipment such as inkjet coders and related technologies for batch & date coding onto FMCG goods, is seeking a hands-on Distribution Center Store Controller to join our Johannesburg team.

1. Role Overview

We are seeking an energetic, diligent, hands-on, and authoritative Distribution Center Store Controller to oversee our FMCG distribution center located at the Linbro Park depot. This critical role specializes in inventory management within the industrial inkjet printing industry.

The Distribution Center Store Controller will be fully accountable for all stock integrity—specifically managing time-sensitive expiry dates for sensitive fluids and rigorous serial number tracking for high-value parts. The objective is to achieve zero stock losses, minimal variances, and prevent out-of-stock scenarios. Operating within a high-accountability environment, the successful candidate will also enforce strict workplace discipline, addressing recent challenges regarding mobile phone usage, unauthorised absences (AWOL), and procedural non-compliance.

2. Key Responsibilities & Core Duties

• Inventory & Stock Accuracy Management: Ensure absolute stock integrity, driving root-cause investigations for variances, minimising stock write-offs, and eliminating stockouts.
• Specialized Stock Controls:
• Manage FIFO/FEFO principles strictly for perishable/expiry-dated industrial fluids and chemicals.
• Enforce precise serial number logging and tracking for all equipment parts and hardware components.
• Inbound Logistics & International Freight: Oversee the receiving, inspection, and systematic put-away of stock imported via sea freight and airfreight, ensuring timely clearance into the system.
• Outbound & Inter-Depot Distribution: Coordinate seamless local distribution to two secondary depots as well as direct local customers surrounding the Linbro Park depot.
• Courier Management & Cut-Off Adherence: Manage daily dispatch operations with our third-party courier partner, ensuring all orders are picked, packed, and staged ahead of the mandatory 3:00 PM daily collection time.
• ERP & Real-Time Scanning Operations: Maximize the utilisation of the warehouse ERP system and real-time handheld scanners to execute and verify all inbound and outbound transactions instantly.
• Staff Discipline & Performance Management: Re-establish rigorous operational discipline. Actively monitor and eliminate unauthorised mobile phone usage on the warehouse floor, track attendance, and curb AWOL behaviour during shifts.
• Perform weekly stock cycle counts and report on variances.
• Monitor and report on slow moving stock.
• Control all stock movements and follow through with any discrepancies that arise.
• Ensure stock housekeeping is Toyota 5S compliant and up to date at all times.
• Available for year-end annual stock take.
• Adhere to company policies.
• Responsible for training and labour relations for the Stores team.
• Adhere to the collection or dispatch rules & regulations for security purposes
• Provide a professional support service to Customer service, Technicians, Salesman as well as the HG Molenaar Agency store
• Any other ad hoc tasks that arise at the request of Management.

3. Performance Metrics & KPIs

1. Inventory Accuracy: Achieving < 0.5% variance during cycle counts and physical stock-takes.

2. Expiry Loss Prevention: Zero write-offs due to expired fluids through active FEFO management.

3. Serial Number Integrity: 100% match rate between physical serialized parts and ERP records.

4. Dispatch Efficiency: 100% on-time daily handover for the 3:00 PM courier collections.

5. Workplace Discipline: Elimination of unauthorized phone usage and AWOL incidents, measured via improved shift adherence and productivity.

4. Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of applicable experience as a leader/supervisor within a fast-paced FMCG or specialized technical/industrial environment.
• Proven track record of managing serialised inventory and date-sensitive consumable goods (chemicals, fluids, or pharmaceuticals).
• Advanced proficiency in utilising enterprise ERP systems and handheld barcode/real-time scanning technologies.
• Strong leadership qualities with a proven ability to turn around undisciplined teams, enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), and handle labour relations firmly and fairly.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills to coordinate international freight arrivals and strict daily courier dispatches.
• Relevant qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Warehouse Management is advantageous.
