Job description
PURPOSE
The purpose of the National Advertising Manager is to lead the development and execution of SPAR's national advertising strategy and integrated marketing campaigns across all channels, ensuring retailer support, customer engagement, and commercial growth. The role is responsible for maximizing advertising effectiveness, managing strategic agency partnerships, driving marketing innovation, and leading a high-performing national advertising team in support of SPAR's business objectives.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
National Advertising Strategy
- Develop and execute SPAR’s national advertising strategy aligned to business objectives
- Drive integrated marketing initiatives across retail, digital and promotional channels
- Identify emerging trends and customer engagement opportunities to enhance brand impact
Campaign Planning & Execution
- Lead the planning, delivery and optimisation of national advertising campaigns across multiple media channels
- Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, within budget and achieve agreed performance objectives
- Use customer and market insights to drive campaign effectiveness and ROI
Financial Management
- Manage the national advertising budget and optimise media investment
- Monitor expenditure, evaluate campaign ROI and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure sound financial governance, forecasting and reporting
Agency & Supplier Management
- Manage strategic relationships with agencies, media partners and suppliers
- Negotiate contracts, monitor performance and ensure delivery against agreed standards
- Foster collaboration to maximise campaign effectiveness and value
Retailer Engagement & Commercial Support
- Partner with retailers and business stakeholders to align advertising initiatives with commercial objectives
- Support the successful rollout and adoption of national campaigns
- Provide strategic marketing guidance to regional teams
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing advertising team
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation and collaboration
- Drive talent development, succession planning and employee engagement
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with advertising regulations, governance standards and legal requirements
- Oversee risk management, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strengthen processes, systems and controls to support operational excellence
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Commerce or related field
- Postgraduate Marketing or Business qualification is advantageous
- Professional marketing accreditation is advantageous
- At least 8-10 years' experience in advertising, integrated marketing communications or related marketing disciplines
- A minimum 3-5 years' experience in a senior management or leadership role
- Proven experience leading national or multi-channel advertising campaigns
- Experience in managing creative, media and digital agency relationships
- Retail, FMCG or consumer-focused industry experience is highly advantageous
- Demonstrated experience managing significant marketing budgets

- Demonstrated ability to produce commercial analysis, reports, and presentations
- Must have a high stress tolerance and the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Must be collaborative, influential, and rational
