Job description
POSITION STATEMENT
To provide strategic leadership, governance, financial oversight, policy management, and operational direction for the company's national fleet portfolio. The National Fleet Manager is accountable for fleet performance, vehicle lifecycle management, maintenance compliance, cost control, insurance management, vendor management, reporting standards, fleet technology development, and overall fleet optimization.
The role ensures that company vehicles, optical equipment, tools, and associated fleet assets are managed cost effectively, safely, compliantly, and efficiently to support operational business requirements nationally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Strategy & Governance
- Develop and maintain the national fleet strategy.
- Establish and enforce fleet policies, procedures, and governance standards.
- Develop fleet operating frameworks and service standards.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, roadworthiness regulations, and insurance requirements.
- Monitor fleet risk exposure and implement mitigation plans.
Fleet Lifecycle Management
- Develop and maintain national fleet replacement plans.
- Forecast future vehicle requirements based on business growth.
- Manage vehicle acquisition and disposal strategies.
- Analyse vehicle utilisation and replacement economics.
- Present annual fleet replacement recommendations and budgets.
- Maintain fleet lifecycle dashboards and forecasting models.
Vehicle Procurement & Supplier Management
- Lead vehicle procurement negotiations.
- Establish relationships with OEMs and dealership groups.
- Negotiate vehicle pricing and procurement contracts.
- Manage supplier performance and SLAs.
- Review and approve vehicle specifications.
- Ensure competitive pricing and cost savings initiatives
Fleet Cost Management
- Responsible for controlling:
- Vehicle operating costs.
- Maintenance expenditure.
- Fuel expenditure.
- Insurance costs.
- Licensing costs.
- Rental costs.
- Fleet administration costs. Specific responsibilities include:
- Management of Avis contract costs.
- Monthly reconciliation of Avis billing.
- Identification and correction of cost discrepancies.
- Fleet budget management.
- Cost reduction initiatives.
Maintenance & Compliance Management
- Ensure fleet maintenance compliance nationally.
- Establish maintenance standards and service schedules.
- Oversee dealership and service centre relationships.
- Escalate OEM issues where required.
- Reduce vehicle downtime.
- Review regional maintenance compliance reports.
Incident & Insurance Management
- Own national accident management strategy.
- Manage third-party liability processes.
- Manage insurance policies and providers.
- Monitor accident trends.
- Review major accidents and escalations.
- Oversee recovery of insurance claims.
- Reduce claim frequency and cost.
Fuel Management
- Establish national fuel management practices.
- Monitor fuel loss trends.
- Investigate significant losses.
- Implement corrective actions.
- Reduce fuel abuse and wastage.
Fleet Systems & Technology
- Lead development and enhancement of:
- Fusion fleet platform.
- Fleet inspection applications.
- Vehicle inspection automation.
- Optical equipment tracking.
- Fleet reporting dashboards.
- Mobile fleet management applications.
Asset & Optical Equipment Management
- Ensure accurate management of:
- OTDRs
- Splicers
- Test equipment
- Tools
- Fleet assets
Strategic Fleet Projects
- Lead national fleet projects including:
- Vehicle branding programs.
- Driver incentive policy.
- Fleet standardisation initiatives.
- Vehicle fitment projects.
- Tool and equipment fitment.
Reporting & Business Intelligence
- Develop a national reporting framework covering:
- Fleet allocation.
- Vehicle utilisation.
- Fuel consumption.
- Driver scorecards.
- Accident rates.
- Insurance spend.
- Maintenance spend.
- Fleet compliance.
- Asset control.
- Implement bottom-up reporting processes ensuring:
- Accurate regional reporting.
- Standardised reporting formats.
- Executive fleet dashboards
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead national fleet team.
- Develop fleet management capability.
- Drive employee engagement and morale.
- Create development plans for regional managers.
- Establish performance metrics.
- Conduct performance reviews.

Qualification & Experience
