Job description
A luxury private nature reserve near Hermanus, set among ancient milkwood forests and fynbos-covered hills overlooking Walker Bay, is seeking an experienced and passionate NATURE GUIDE to join their team.
This is an opportunity for a guide who wants a more grounded, balanced lifestyle without giving up the quality of guest experience found in a top-tier reserve. The role suits someone who loves sharing this coastal and floral landscape with guests, from whale sightings to the region's rich plant life.
Core Criteria:
- Relevant guiding qualifications
- Previous nature guiding experience, ideally within a luxury lodge or private reserve
- Strong knowledge of local wildlife, flora, and conservation practices
- Confident, professional guest interaction and hosting ability
- Valid driver's licence and own transport advantageous
- Able to work well independently and as part of a team
Core Responsibilities:
- Guide guests on drives and walks, sharing knowledge of the reserve's wildlife and fynbos environment
- Deliver engaging, memorable guest experiences from arrival to departure
- Build rapport with allocated guests throughout their stay
- Maintain a professional, well-presented standard at all times
- Support the wider guiding and hosting team as needed
On Offer:
- Salary: R12,000 to R18,000, depending on qualifications and experience
- Staff accommodation available roughly 10 minutes from the lodge, at R3,500 per month
- Structured tipping policy with good earning potential
- Typical hours 08:00 to 18:00, often finishing earlier
- Transport assistance available for guides who need it getting to and from the lodge
- A more balanced lifestyle compared to traditional remote bush-guiding roles
