Job description
SMSA seeks experienced New Business Development Executive to source and acquire new clients for SMSA Africa Logistics Group of Companies, with specific focus on selling Transport, Contract Logistics, Warehouse Outsourcing (Facility, Operations and/or Management Outsourcing), Inventory Management Outsourcing and Supply Chain Optimization Projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Source and acquire new clients for SMSA Africa Logistics Group of Companies.
- Sell integrated logistics and supply chain solutions, including transport, contract logistics, warehouse and inventory outsourcing, and supply chain optimisation.
- Identify, research, and pursue new business opportunities through cold calling and networking.
- Cross-sell services to existing clients and develop new revenue streams.
- Compile client visit schedules and report on sales activity and KPIs.
- Promote the company through professional client engagement and positive public relations.
- Analyse market needs and support the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Provide customer-focused solutions, quotations, and technical support.
- Manage and grow client relationships, maximising revenue and ensuring service excellence.
- Develop client sales strategies, including pricing, cost planning, tendering, and contract negotiations.
- Take full accountability for assigned client accounts and deliver effective after-sales support.
- Ensure effective coordination between clients and internal departments.
- Monitor invoicing and payment processes.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives and monitor competitor activity.
- Submit accurate weekly sales and progress reports.
- Exercise sound decision-making within delegated authority.
- Achieve agreed individual KPIs and performance targets.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 (Matric) with a relevant qualification in logistics, sales, or marketing.
- 3–5 years’ experience in sales within logistics or supply chain environments.
- Proven experience in warehouse, inventory, and/or supply chain optimisation or management within a sales-driven environment.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
- Strong customer relationship management, negotiation, and commercial skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and solid knowledge of supply chain, logistics systems, and EHS requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in professional customer relationship management, including the implementation of sales promotion initiatives and the provision of strategic customer guidance.
- Sound entrepreneurial and commercial acumen, with practical exposure to contract management, assessment of customer creditworthiness, insolvency considerations, and supplementary invoice management.
- Strong working knowledge of structured sales methodologies, including opportunity identification, scenario-based selling, effective handling of customer objections or claims, and the application of persuasive, value-based reasoning.
