Job description
Purpose of the Role
The New Store IT Technician is responsible for the end-to-end technical setup, installation, configuration, and commissioning of all IT systems in new Hungry Lion stores. This includes POS systems, network equipment, payment devices, printers, CCTV connectivity, and store back-office infrastructure.
The role ensures every new store is fully operational from an IT perspective prior to opening, with stable, tested, and standardised systems aligned to Hungry Lion IT architecture and operational requirements supporting new store openings.
The role is based in Cape Town, Stellenbosch with extensive travel required across RSA and selected African countries
Key Responsibilities
Store IT Deployment & Setup
- Install and configure POS hardware and software and in new stores.
- Set up routers, switches, firewalls, and connectivity devices.
- Configure payment devices and ensure successful transaction testing.
- Install and test kitchen printers, receipt printers, and peripherals.
- Support CCTV and basic network integration readiness.
Store Go-Live Support
- Provide onsite IT support during store opening and go-live.
- Ensure all systems are fully functional before trading starts.
- Perform end-to-end transaction testing (POS + payments + reporting).
- Resolve last-minute technical issues during launch phase.
- Provide hypercare support immediately after store opening.
Standards & Compliance
- Ensure all store IT deployments follow standard Hungry Lion configurations.
- Apply approved network, POS, and security templates.
- Maintain accurate installation checklists and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with IT security and operational standards.
Coordination & Logistics
- Work closely with network engineers, vendors, and project teams.
- Coordinate equipment delivery, staging, and onsite readiness.
- Escalate issues related to hardware, connectivity, or configuration delays.
- Support structured rollout plans for new store openings.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve onsite technical issues during setup and launch.
- Perform hardware replacement and basic repairs where required.
- Liaise with central IT support for complex issues.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete installation sign-off documentation per store.
- Report issues, risks, and deviations during rollout.
- Maintain accurate records of deployed equipment per site.
Technical Skills & Experience
Essential
- 2–4 years’ experience in IT support or field technician role.
- Experience with POS systems or retail environments.
- Basic networking knowledge (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi).
- Experience with hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work onsite in fast-paced environments.
Preferred
- Experience in multi-site retail rollouts.
- Exposure to SD-WAN or store connectivity environments.
- Familiarity with payment systems and EFT devices.
- CCTV installation or support experience.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in IT / Computer Science / Networking (or equivalent experience)
- Valid driver’s licence (required for travel)
