The Department of Afrikaans and Dutch at Stellenbosch University (SU) is a centre of expertise that bridges local and global linguistic fields.

Our work, grounded in rigorous research, supports studying and teaching Afrikaans and Dutch literature, linguistics and applied disciplines.

We offer a wide range of academic and practice-oriented programmes, emphasising multilingualism and preparing students to excel in diverse areas of language and communication.

The position is part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) initiative of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), which funds the position (http://www.dhet.gov.za/ssauf/ngap.html).

Die Departement Afrikaans en Nederlands aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) is 'n kundigheidsentrum wat plaaslike én internasionale taalterreine met mekaar verbind.

Ons werk, gegrond op deeglike navorsing, ondersteun die bestudering en onderrig van Afrikaanse en Nederlandse letterkunde, taalkunde en toegepaste vakgebiede.

Ons bied 'n wye reeks akademiese en praktykgeoriënteerde programme aan wat meertaligheid beklemtoon en studente voorberei om in verskeie taal- en kommunikasiedomeine te presteer.

Hierdie pos maak deel uit van die New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)-inisiatief van die Departement van Hoër Onderwys en Opleiding, wat die aanstelling befonds(http://www.dhet.gov.za/ssauf/ngap.html).

Duties/Pligte

This position forms part of the nGAP initiative and the incumbent will benefit from a reduced workload in the first three to four years.

The additional time available will be dedicated to achieving the teaching and research development goals outlined by the nGAP.

The incumbent can work towards the completion of either a PhD or a postdoc.

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Afrikaans Language Learning.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Language Practice, should there be a need within the Department.
  • Administrative duties according to Departmental needs.

Hierdie pos maak deel uit van die nGAP-inisiatief en die posbekleër sal baat by `n verminderde werkslading in die eerste drie tot vier jaar.

Die bykomende beskikbare tyd sal aangewend word om die onderrig- en navorsingsontwikkelingsdoelwitte te bereik soos voorgeskryf deur die nGAP.

Die posbekleër kan die tyd gebruik om óf 'n PhD óf postdoktorale-studie te voltooi.

  • Voorgraadse en nagraadse onderrig in Afrikaanse Taalaanleer.
  • Voorgraadse en nagraadse onderrig in Taalpraktyk, sou daar 'n behoefte binne die Departement wees.
  • Administratiewe take na gelang van Departementele behoefte.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • MA degree in Translation, Afrikaans and Dutch, or a related field, specialising in Afrikaans Language Learning.
  • A pass mark of 70% or more in the MA degree.
  • Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be under 40 years of age.

  • MA-graad in Vertaling, Afrikaans en Nederlands of 'n verwante veld, met spesialisasie in Afrikaanse Taalaanleer.
  • 'n Slaagpunt van minstens 70% in die MA-graad.
  • Uitstekende kommunikasievaardighede in Afrikaans en Engels
  • Moet 'n Suid-Afrikaanse burger wees.
  • Moet onder 40-jaar-oud wees.

  • Registration as a PhD student.
  • Proficiency in isiXhosa.
  • Cum laude result for MA degree.
  • Evidence of a developing research profile, as reflected in conference participation and the publication of accredited research outputs.
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team.
  • Registrasie as 'n PhD-student.
  • Vaardigheid in isiXhosa.
  • Onderskeidingspunt vir MA-graad.
  • Blyke van 'n ontwikkelende navorsingsrekord, soos weerspieël in kongresdeelname en die publikasie van geakkrediteerde navorsingsuitsette.
  • Onderrigervaring op tersiêre vlak.
