Night Security Guard

Summary

We are looking for a Night Security Guard to join our Geoff Burton House team at The Hope Exchange, Cape Town. This person will report directly to the Social Worker. This is a full-time onsite position and will be offered as a 6 month contract.

This position:

The Night Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and orderly environment at The Hope Exchange during night hours, on weekends and public holidays. The role involves protecting the Geoff Burton House residents, staff, visitors, buildings, equipment and other organisational assets; monitoring access to the premises; conducting regular security patrols; responding appropriately to incidents and emergencies; and maintaining accurate security records. The position requires vigilance, professionalism, sound judgement and respectful interaction with residents and clients.

Geoff Burton House

Geoff Burton House provides accommodation to homeless individuals that are working and earning an income while they are preparing to reintegrate with family or move into independent accommodation. Programmes assist with reintegration outcomes.

Key areas of responsibility

• Site Security - maintain continuous vigilance throughout the night and ensure all designated areas, entrances and exits are secure.
• Access Control - monitor and control access to the premises; ensure only authorised persons enter the facility after hours.
• Patrolling - conduct scheduled internal and external patrols and record patrols accurately in the security logbook.
• Protection of GBH residents, walk-in clients & staff - promote the safety and wellbeing of GBH residents, clients and clients and respond promptly to security-related concerns.
• Incident Management - respond appropriately to disturbances, emergencies, suspicious activity, fire, theft or other security incidents and immediately escalate serious matters.
• Asset Protection - safeguard buildings, vehicles, equipment, donations, supplies and other organisational property against theft, damage or unauthorised use.
• Monitoring - monitor alarms, gates, doors, lighting and other security systems where applicable.
• Reporting - maintain accurate daily occurrence books, incident reports and handover notes, ensuring all significant incidents are reported to management.
• Emergency Response- follow The Hope Exchange emergency, evacuation, fire and incident-response procedures and contact relevant emergency services when required.
• Professional Conduct- treat residents, clients, staff and visitors with dignity and respect while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Handover & Communication- provide a clear verbal and written handover to the incoming security/staff team at the end of each shift.
• Health & Safety - report hazards, maintenance concerns, broken locks, faulty lighting and other conditions that could compromise safety or security.

Experience and Skills

• Education: Security-related training certificate

- Minimum Grade 10/Grade 12, preferably Grade 12.

- Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to complete security registers, incident reports and occurrence books.

• Experience working night shifts is preferred.
• Previous experience dealing with members of the public, residents or vulnerable adults will be an advantage.
• Experience responding to incidents, emergencies and security breaches is desirable.
• Certifications: - Valid PSiRA registration and appropriate security grade.

- Relevant security training/certificate.

- First Aid certification will be an added advantage.

- Firefighting/fire-safety training will be an added advantage.

• Excellent observation and vigilance skills.
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgement under pressure.
• Good incident identification, response and reporting skills.
• Ability to conduct effective security patrols.
• Basic understanding of access control and security procedures.
• Reliability, punctuality and strong personal integrity.
• Physical fitness and ability to remain alert and active throughout a night shift.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
