Job Title: Nursing Services Manager

Reports To: Facility Manager / Executive Manager

Purpose of the Position

The Nursing Services Manager is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and delivery of high-quality nursing care within the facility. The role ensures compliance with healthcare legislation, professional standards, and organisational policies while promoting the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of all residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all nursing staff, including Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Enrolled Nursing Assistants, and Care Workers.
• Plan, organise, and coordinate daily nursing services to ensure quality resident care.
• Develop and implement nursing care policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) regulations and Department of Health requirements.
• Monitor and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
• Conduct staff performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching, and disciplinary processes where required.
• Coordinate recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training of nursing personnel.
• Ensure accurate nursing documentation and resident records are maintained.
• Monitor medication management systems and ensure safe medication administration practices.
• Conduct regular clinical audits, risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Investigate and report incidents, accidents, and resident complaints.
• Liaise with doctors, allied healthcare professionals, residents, and families regarding resident care.
• Manage staffing rosters and ensure adequate staffing levels.
• Oversee procurement and control of medical equipment and nursing supplies.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Participate in management meetings and contribute to strategic planning for the facility.
• Promote resident-centred care that respects dignity, privacy, and individual needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Registered Nurse registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
• Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years' nursing experience, including management or supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of South African healthcare legislation and elderly care standards.
• Valid driver's licence (advantageous).
