Occupational Therapist Technician

JOB SUMMARY

To implement interventions prescribed by the Occupational Therapist for the management of individuals with different requirements. The OTT is responsible for assisting the Occupational therapist in the provision of therapeutic and rehabilitative services.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification in Occupational Therapy Technician as prescribed by the HPCSA
• Registration with HPCSA

Minimum Experience:

• 2 years’ experience as in a related field
• Psychiatric and rehabilitation centre exposure will be advantageous
• Private healthcare experience will be advantageous

DELIVERABLES

• Implement individual and group therapy interventions under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist
• Prepare therapy sessions by working with Ots to develop and carry out treatment plans and setting up treatment environments
• Maintain quality assurance measure within the scope of practice of an OTT
• Perform various therapeutic and rehabilitative techniques with focus on strengthening, stretching, positioning and stabilisation of joints
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and educate patients, families and caregivers about treatment goals and progress
• Provide mobility assistance to patients during sessions (i.e. assist patients to move into different positions during therapy sessions)
• Monitor patients’ progress through evaluation, assessment and reassessments as recommended by the OT
• Effectively collaborate with OTs and Nurses (where relevant) for integrated care of patients
