On-site Sorter

Recycle 1st is looking to hire an on-site sorter to join our organisation. We need an individual with a recycling sorting background, the skill to sort fast and the ability to work towards a target. The candidate will be expected to receive incoming recycling, sort the recycling into various categories and weigh and note those totals. Knowledge on how to maintain a clean and hazard free on-site storage area is needed. The sorter will be required to oversee recycling input and output totals and will be required to report those back to head office. The candidate must be able to work in a neat and orderly manner and must be self-motivated.

Please note: Only individuals with recycling experience and knowledge will be considered for the job.

General Responsibilities

• Receive incoming waste and sort it into recyclable categories.
• Ensure that all recyclables and waste is safely stored and moved to the assigned storage areas.
• Open all incoming bags/ bins and sort them into their material categories.
• Make arrangements for outgoing recycling to be moved to assigned storage areas, ensuring that they are properly stored.
• Refer to work orders to determine the type and quantity of recycling to be collected, and ensure that they are picked up on time.
• Weigh recycling and note weights
• Take pictures of all outgoing waste
• Maximize storage space within the warehouse area, by carefully stacking and storing items
• Wash and clean wheelie bins and other tools and equipment daily

Skills and Inherent Requirements:

• Previous recycling sorting experience
• 1+ years of experience in a similar role
• Must be able to speak two of the following languages (English and Afrikaans or Xhosa)
• Must be organised
• Must be able to communicate well with head office and the team
• Strong ability to multitask
• Comfortable working with multiple groups within a business
• Physically capable of working in a fast-paced environment
• Own a phone with Whatsapp
