Job description
Job Description
This is not an everyday executive vacancy. Tekkie Town is looking for a commercially astute, customer-obsessed retail leader to take accountability for the performance and evolution of our store network. With 380+ stores across South Africa, Lesotho and Namibia, Tekkie Town is a recognised Southern African retail brand with a powerful footprint and an ambitious growth mindset.
If you thrive in complex, high-volume retail environments, can translate strategy into exceptional store execution, and know how to build leaders who deliver results, this is a role with genuine scale, visibility and impact.
Why this role matters:
- Own the operational performance of a large, multi-country retail network and help shape the next chapter of the Tekkie Town customer experience.
- Balance commercial performance, operational excellence, cost discipline and customer value — without losing sight of our people.
- Influence decisions across strategy, stores, property, merchandising, marketing, technology, supply chain and people.
- Lead through data, insight and clear accountability, turning performance opportunities into measurable action.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and execute the retail operations strategy, translate business strategy into practical operating plans, and continuously raise the standard of execution.
- Lead end-to-end store operations across South Africa, Lesotho and Namibia, with accountability for sales, productivity, inventory, merchandising, risk and operational excellence.
- Champion a consistent, compelling customer experience and ensure systems, processes and store execution keep pace with evolving customer expectations.
- Own budgets and performance insights, drive profitability and productivity, and make disciplined decisions on cost optimisation and resource allocation.
- Partner with Property and other functions on new stores, relocations, revamps and closures — using location, store economics and customer opportunity to guide decisions.
- Build a high-performing operations leadership team; set clear KPIs, develop capability, strengthen succession and create a culture of accountability, energy and continuous improvement.
- Commercial impact. You improve sales productivity, profitability and cost effectiveness across the network.
- Operational excellence. Stores execute consistently, efficiently and to the brand standard.
- Customer obsession. Customer experience is visible in the way stores operate, teams behave and decisions are made.
- Leadership depth. You leave the operation stronger by developing leaders, strengthening succession and raising accountability.
- Future readiness. You use data, technology and an omni-channel mindset to keep stores relevant and competitive.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Business Management or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- At least 8 years’ experience in retail operations, including at least 3 years in senior retail leadership.
- A proven record of delivering business targets, strategic operational goals and sustainable retail performance.
- Ideally, experience leading operations at regional or divisional level within a retail organisation with 200+ stores.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret performance data and turn insight into action.
- Deep understanding of store operations, inventory, merchandising, risk, property/location strategy and retail workforce practices.
- Working knowledge of supply chain, distribution and logistics optimisation, as well as omni-channel and technology-enabled retail.
- Strong executive communication, influencing and stakeholder-management capability.
- Resilience, tenacity, pace and initiative — with the judgement to resolve complex issues and the confidence to make decisions.
- A demonstrated ability to develop senior managers, build succession pipelines and create high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in leveraging retail technology, POS and analytics to improve efficiency, visibility and decision-making.
