Macsteel Tube & Pipe is looking for a reliable and hands-on Operator Warehouse (Shunter) to join our team at Mac City - Elandsfontein. This is a physically active, fast-paced role at the heart of our warehouse operations, where you'll be responsible for receiving, storing, and moving material accurately and safely across all gantries and bays on site — from checking deliveries against supplier notes, to picking, packing, strapping, and loading stock for customers and inter-branch deliveries.
You will operate cranes, forklifts, and side loaders to move tubing, sheets, valves, fittings, flanges, and structural steel, while scanning stock movements and maintaining accurate records in SAP. Safety is central to this role: daily equipment checks, correct slinging practices, and routine inspections are all part of keeping the warehouse running smoothly and safely. The role also includes night shift responsibilities, including weighing trucks in and out, strapping and labelling loads, and completing truck inspections.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of a matric certificate or 5 years proven work experience with acceptable levels of numeracy and literacy (Will be tested)
- Ability to use bar code scanners by accurately picking and storing as per standard operating procedures
- Ability to understand SAP bin and storage locations
- Product Knowledge of all Macsteel products (valves, pipe, fittings, flanges and structural steel) and the ability to understand and learn new products
- Able to use measuring equipment
- Valid crane, forklift and side loader license (Must provide)
- Prepared to multi-task, work overtime or flexible shifts when required
- The ability to communicate in English
- Code 10/14 Licence (essential)
- Basic computer literacy and ability to use hardware such as:- tablets, smart phones, crane remotes and scanners
- Prepared to undergo training
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receiving of incoming materials i.e.: physically checking and confirming items received from suppliers to suppliers’ delivery notes ensuring correct sizes, quantities, quality etc.
- Ensuring material is stored in correct allocated areas
- Marking items, packing and identification of items -labels / barcodes / colour coding (Labeling of items after bundles are broken) of items,
- Loading and offloading materials
- Operating machines, picking and checking when required (Picking, packing and strapping of material)
- General housekeeping
- Ensure safety is maintained at all times by doing routine safety inspections and reporting off unsafe acts and conditions. Follow company safety rules.
- Scanning of material movement and ensuring correct recording of data (stock and allocation) in SAP
- perform additional warehouse tasks from time to time
- Conduct work across all gantries and bays within the site
- All duties to be carried out timeously and accurately.
- Assist with stock cycle counts
- Ensure products such as tubing, sheets, lip-channels and other applicable products are stored in a manner to prevent rust and damages.
- Cleaning of rusted, soiled material where required.
- Checking and slinging of all material loaded and offloaded.
- Deliveries to customers and inter-branches.
- Reporting of stock shortages and stock damages before the end of the shift.
- Packing material to ensure walkways are clear of obstructions or to allow safe walking within the bay. All protruding material to be marked with hazard tape.
- Daily crane and forklift check to be completed. Includes the visual checking of hooks, slings, chains, crane ropes, crane drums, spreader beams and related lifting equipment - Any defects to be reported immediately)
- Ensure all trucks are weighed IN and OUT during night shift
- Ensure loads are strapped and labelled during nightshift
- Ensure truck inspection is done during nightshift
- Deliver material during night shift if it is necessary
