PART-TIME IT SUPPORT & INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNICIAN

On The Ball College is looking for a dependable, experienced and hands-on Part-Time IT Support & Infrastructure Technician to provide technical support across our computer training labs, staff devices and IT infrastructure.

This is not primarily a training/facilitation position. We require someone who can independently diagnose technical problems, implement solutions, maintain our IT environment and document work accurately.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Troubleshooting desktop and laptop hardware and software problems
• Supporting Microsoft Windows 10/11 environments
• Installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft applications
• Supporting Microsoft 365 and Office applications
• Setting up and maintaining computer training labs
• Installing and configuring desktops and laptops
• Troubleshooting LAN and Wi-Fi connectivity
• Basic network configuration and troubleshooting
• Supporting switches, routers and network cabling
• Installing and troubleshooting printers and shared printers
• Internet connectivity troubleshooting
• Software installation and workstation standardisation
• Windows updates and preventative maintenance
• Basic endpoint security and antivirus support
• User account and access support
• Equipment and IT asset tracking
• Supporting projectors and classroom technology
• Diagnosing recurring technical problems and recommending permanent solutions

Computer Lab Responsibilities

The technician must understand that our computer labs are operational training environments.

The role therefore includes ensuring that:

• Computers are operational before training takes place
• Required software is installed and tested
• Internet and network connectivity is working
• Printers and projectors are operational
• Workstations are appropriately configured
• Faulty equipment is identified and reported
• Labs are periodically inspected and maintained
• Technical problems that could disrupt training are proactively identified

Documentation

Documentation is a critical requirement of this position.

Every technical issue must be recorded, including:

• Date reported
• User/lab
• Device and asset number
• Problem reported
• Diagnosis
• Action taken
• Parts or costs required
• Status
• Follow-up required
• Resolution date

The technician will also be expected to maintain:

• IT Support Register
• IT Asset Register
• Lab Health Checklists
• Network/infrastructure documentation
• Outstanding IT Issues Register
• Monthly IT Maintenance Report

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Relevant IT qualification or recognised industry certifications
• Practical industry experience in IT technical support
• Strong Microsoft Windows troubleshooting experience
• Desktop and laptop hardware knowledge
• Practical networking knowledge
• LAN and Wi-Fi troubleshooting experience
• Printer and peripheral support experience
• Experience setting up and supporting multiple computers
• Good written documentation skills
• Ability to troubleshoot independently
• Reliable transport for onsite support where required
• Ability to provide remote support

Experience supporting a college, school, training centre, computer laboratory or other multi-user IT environment will be highly advantageous.
