Job description
To execute end-to-end payroll processes for a large, unionised workforce within a mining environment, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, statutory compliance, reporting, and data integrity. The incumbent will be responsible for payroll execution activities for high-volume employee populations and must possess strong SAP ECC600 payroll experience and extensive knowledge of mining payroll practices and legislation.
Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Execution
- Execute monthly, off-cycle, correction, and advance payroll runs for large employee populations.
- Process employee engagements, terminations, transfers, promotions, salary adjustments, allowances, deductions, encashments, and leave payments.
- Process complex payroll transactions relating to:
- Shift allowances
- Production bonuses
- Overtime payments
- Travel allowances
- Housing and living-out allowances
- Medical and pension deductions
- Garnishee orders and third-party deductions
- Generate and distribute payslips, IRP5 certificates, and payroll reports.
SAP Payroll Administration (ECC600)
- Perform payroll processing and administration using SAP ECC600 HR and Payroll modules.
- Maintain employee master data and organisational structures within SAP.
- Process payroll corrections and retroactive adjustments.
- Conduct payroll validation checks and reconciliations within SAP.
- Participate in SAP testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and system enhancement initiatives.
- Ensure payroll system controls and data integrity are maintained.
Mining Payroll Administration
- Administer payroll processes specific to the mining industry, including:
- Shift patterns and rosters
- Time and attendance management
- Overtime calculations
- Leave administration
- Production and incentive payments
- Employee movements across operations
- Process payroll for large, complex, and unionised workforces.
- Understand and apply mining sector conditions of employment and collective agreements where applicable.
Statutory Compliance and Reporting
- Prepare and submit statutory payroll obligations, including:
- PAYE
- UIF
- SDL
- EMP201 submissions
- EMP501 reconciliations
- IRP5 submissions
- Compensation Fund declarations
- Rand Mutual Assurance submissions
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labour and tax legislation.
- Remain informed of legislative changes impacting payroll operations.
Payroll Reconciliations and Reporting
- Prepare monthly payroll reports and management reports.
- Complete leave provision reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
- Prepare pension fund and medical aid schedules and facilitate payments.
- Compile payroll statistics and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support month-end and year-end payroll activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- National Diploma or Certificate in Payroll Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or related field.
- Payroll qualifications or certifications will be advantageous.
Minimum Experience
- Minimum 6 years' payroll execution experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the mining industry.
- Proven experience processing payroll for large employee populations.
- Demonstrated experience with high-volume payroll environments and complex payroll transactions.
- Experience with statutory submissions and year-end payroll processes.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive SAP ECC600 HR and Payroll experience is mandatory.
- Mining industry payroll experience is essential.
- Proven experience in:
- Payroll execution
- Time and attendance administration
- Payroll reconciliations
- Statutory submissions
- Large-scale payroll processing
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
