Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ has an opportunity available for a People Advisor to join the People & Culture team in Bloemfontein. The main purpose of this role will be to act as a trusted link between People & Culture Operations and Business Partnering, ensuring that people processes, data, and frameworks are applied accurately and consistently across the business. The role connects people information, policy, and practice, enabling informed decisions, reliable service delivery, and a consistent employee experience that supports organisational agility and readiness.

Minimum Requirements…

Essential:

  • Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate
  • National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in human resources management, Industrial Psychology, or a related field. (or actively working towards completion)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in an HR advisory, coordination, or generalist role within a large, multi-site organisation (e.g., retail, logistics, or healthcare)
  • Proven exposure to core HR processes across the employee lifecycle
  • Sound understanding of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE, BBBEE, SD) and compliance standards

Advantage:

  • Honours Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, or equivalent
  • Competence in HRIS systems (SAP, Oracle, SuccessFactors, or equivalent) and reporting
  • Professional certification in HR, Change Management, or Coaching (e.g., SABPP, Prosci, Insights Discovery, GROW)
  • Experience in workforce analytics and data storytelling
  • Experience supporting HR or transformation projects

Job Specification...

People and Culture Business Partnering & Advisory:

  • Act as the bridge between operational and strategic People and Culture delivery, translating workforce and performance insights into actionable, people-centred solutions.
  • Guide and support people managers in applying People and Culture policies, processes, and frameworks effectively, using data to highlight trends and drive consistency.
  • Provide practical advice and coaching where required to people managers on day-to-day people matters such as performance, employee relations, and engagement, escalating complex or high-risk matters to the appropriate People and Culture Business Partner.

Performance, Growth & Workforce Planning :

  • Support implementation of performance and development frameworks, tracking completion rates, trends, and insights from feedback data.
  • Partner with Learning & Development to align learning priorities to workforce needs and performance trends, ensuring compliance requirements and development objectives are consistently met.
  • Coordinate inputs for workforce, succession, and mobility planning, ensuring all data is current, accurate, and available for business and P&C Business Partner review.
  • Use workforce metrics and people analytics (e.g., turnover, absenteeism, tenure, pipeline readiness, internal moves) to surface insights that inform P&C Business Partnering and business decision-making.

Change, Culture & Transformation:

  • Support delivery of change, transformation, and culture initiatives by helping leaders apply approved frameworks, communication plans, and engagement tools developed by People and Culture.
  • Reinforce key messages and cultural behaviours during transitions and day-to-day interactions, ensuring communication and engagement activities reflect the Formula for Success and organisational values.
  • Gather and interpret feedback and sentiment data from surveys, forums, and team interactions to provide grounded insights that inform Business Partnering and Organisational Design planning.

Employee Relations & Compliance:

  • Ensure consistent and compliant application of Dis-Chem’s People & Culture policies, procedures, and labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, POPIA), supporting people leaders in applying fair and constructive employee relations practices.
  • Assist in the early resolution of employee concerns and conduct matters, ensuring processes are followed, documentation is accurate, and records are maintained for reporting and compliance purposes.

People Data, Analytics & Processes:

  • Coordinate core People & Culture processes and data updates (e.g., employee movements, reporting inputs, compliance submissions), ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness across the employee lifecycle.
  • Validate data quality in P&C systems and dashboards, supporting generation of regular workforce reports for tracking, audit, and business review purposes.
  • Leverage people analytics to surface insights on key workforce trends such as turnover, absenteeism, tenure, and productivity, enabling informed P&C Business Partnering and business discussions.
  • Support process improvement by identifying opportunities to automate reporting, streamline data capture, and enhance accessibility of workforce insights.
