THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Senior Lead | People and Performance and working in close support of the People Operations Specialist, you will take ownership of the administrative backbone of the employee lifecycle. This role suits a meticulous, deadline-driven administrator who wants to build a solid foundation in HR and payroll administration, with genuine scope to grow into a broader People and Performance career path.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process employee lifecycle events accurately and timeously, including transfers, promotions, role changes, and exits.
  • Prepare, issue, and track employment contracts, confirmation letters, and other standard HR documentation.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready employee records and personnel files.
  • Support the People Operations Specialist with the administrative onboarding of new employees, ensuring documentation is finalised ahead of start dates.
  • Coordinate with IT and relevant departments to confirm that system access and equipment are in place for new starters.
  • Capture and verify payroll inputs, including overtime, leave, and allowances, ahead of monthly payroll cut-off deadlines.
  • Process benefit enrolments, changes, and terminations, and liaise with benefit providers as required.
  • Maintain real-time, accurate employee data on the human resources information system (HRIS).
  • Act as a first point of contact for employees and line managers on HR administrative queries, leave balances, and payroll input issues, escalating complex matters to the People Operations Specialist.
  • Support compliance with Employment Equity and other statutory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with policy administration and ensure employees have access to current policies.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and company events.
  • Assist with HR audits and ensure compliance with labour legislation and internal policies.
  • Track probation periods, contract renewals and expiry dates.
  • Assist with timesheet compliance and follow up with employees where necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must have:

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial psychology, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least one to two years of experience in HR administration, payroll administration, or a similarly data-driven administrative role.
  • Working knowledge of HR and payroll administration processes and systems.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage confidential employee information with discretion and professionalism.

It would advantage you to have:

  • An honours degree or postgraduate qualification in human resources or a related field.
  • Exposure to HRIS and payroll platforms such as Sage 300 People or similar systems.
  • Experience supporting payroll input processes within strict monthly deadline cycles.

  • Clear communication: liaises confidently with employees and line managers to resolve HR administrative queries.
  • Process discipline: follows defined HR procedures and document control standards consistently, even under operational pressure.
  • Collaborative support: works closely with the People Operations Specialist and the Senior Lead | People and Performance to ensure seamless lifecycle administration.
