We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and customer-focused Perishable Manager to lead our Fresh Departments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Bakery, Deli, Butchery, Produce, and Dairy departments, ensuring exceptional product quality, food safety, stock availability, and outstanding customer service while achieving sales and profitability targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all perishable departments to ensure high merchandising standards.
• Maintain excellent product freshness, quality, and presentation.
• Monitor stock levels, ordering, receiving, and inventory control.
• Minimise waste, shrinkage, and stock losses.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
• Lead, coach, and motivate department staff to achieve performance targets.
• Prepare staff schedules and manage labor costs effectively.
• Monitor department sales, gross profit, and operating expenses.
• Conduct regular stock takes and investigate variances.
• Ensure promotional displays and seasonal merchandising are executed according to company standards.
• Handle customer queries and resolve complaints professionally.
• Maintain clean, organised, and safe work areas.
• Work closely with suppliers to ensure consistent product quality and availability.
• Ensure all departments meet company policies and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• 3 to 5 years' experience managing fresh or perishable departments within a supermarket or retail environment.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Experience in stock management and inventory control.
• Good understanding of gross profit, margins, and shrinkage management.
• Proven leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and retail systems).
• Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and flexible retail hours.
