Job description
- Education: Grade 10 minimum (Grade 12 / Matric is highly preferred for cash-handling accuracy).
- Language & Literacy: Clear verbal communication in English (and local regional languages) to interact safely with customers. Basic reading and writing are necessary for logbooks and shift handovers.
- Numeracy: Solid basic arithmetic skills to handle cash, calculate change, and verify point-of-sale (POS) receipts.
- Identification: Valid South African ID document or legally compliant work authorization.
- Background: No criminal record (due to the high volume of cash, card transactions, and high-value stock).
- 2. Key Responsibilities
- Forecourt Service & Sales
- Greeting customers politely and establishing their fuel requirements (e.g., Petrol vs. Diesel, ULP 93 vs. 95, amount).
- Safely operating fuel dispensers (pumps) and dispensing the correct type and amount of fuel.
- Providing standard value-added vehicle checks: cleaning windscreens, checking engine oil/water/coolant levels, and adjusting tire pressure.
- Promoting promotional shop items, premium lubricants, or station loyalty programs.
- Transaction Handling
- Processing payments accurately via cash, debit/credit cards, and fleet cards.
- Operating wireless speedpoint/POS terminals correctly.
- Issuing correct change and tax receipts for every transaction.
- Reconciling cash drawer/pouch balances at the end of each shift.
- Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Adhering strictly to standard safety protocols (e.g., ensuring engines are turned off, no smoking or open flames, managing static electricity risks).
- Safely handling minor fuel spillages using proper containment procedures (sand/absorbent drop bins).
- Maintaining a spotless forecourt environment, including wiping down pump islands, cleaning drip trays, and emptying bins.
- Monitoring fuel and oil stock levels and reporting any equipment faults or leakages to the shift supervisor immediately.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long hours on the hard forecourt surface, frequently exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions.
- Shift Flexibility: Willingness to work structured shifts, including rotating night shifts, weekends, and public holidays (as fuel stations operate 24/7).
- Trustworthy, reliable, well-groomed, and resilient when handling high-pressure peak hours or difficult customers.
Pay: R45,79 per hour
