Job description
GHM Music has been delivering quality private music lessons since 2013 — in students' homes, in schools, and online to students around the world. What makes us different is simple: our teachers travel to the student. Lessons happen where the music will actually be practised, on the student's own instrument, in an environment where they're comfortable. For students further afield, we teach online via Zoom and similar platforms.
We're not a lesson-matching service. We're a team of music educators who track every student's progress, prepare candidates for internationally recognised examinations, and hold ourselves to a genuinely high standard of music education. GHM is also the Authorised National Partner for MTB Music Examinations in South Africa — so our teachers work at the centre of formal music assessment in the country, not on the sidelines of it.
The Role
We're looking for a Piano Teacher to join our Johannesburg team. You'll conduct one-on-one piano lessons at students' homes and partner schools across the metro, teach music theory, and guide students of all ages — from young beginners to adults returning to the instrument. Some work-from-home is available for teachers who take on online students.
You'll never be teaching into a void. Every GHM teacher is supported by a scheduling and operations team, structured progress reporting, and a community of 20+ fellow instructors who share what works.
More Than Lessons
Joining GHM means joining a growing business, and we pay attention to what each teacher brings beyond the piano bench. If you have skills that help the company run, market, or grow — whether that's content creation, admin strength, examination coordination, or something we haven't thought of — additional compensation can be structured around that contribution. We'll explore this together during the interview process, with a probation period applying to any such responsibilities.
What We're Looking For
- ABRSM, Trinity, LCM or UNISA Grade 8 minimum (practical)
- Solid music theory and music education knowledge
- Experience teaching piano
- Strong communication skills — with students and with parents
- The ability to adapt your teaching to each individual student
- A Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field
- Own reliable transport (lessons take place at client locations across Pretoria)
How to Apply
- If you're a pianist who cares as much about how students learn as what they learn, we'd like to hear from you. Apply with your CV and a short note on your teaching approach.
