Summary of role: To install, maintain, inspect, repair and troubleshoot plumbing and water reticulation systems to ensure the reliable operation of all plumbing infrastructure. The Plumber is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance, identifying plumbing faults, repairing leaks and blockages, installing and maintaining piping systems, and ensuring that all plumbing work is completed to the required safety, quality and technical standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and repair plumbing systems.
- Install and maintain water supply and distribution systems.
- Install, maintain and repair pipes, fittings, valves, taps, pumps and associated equipment.
- Repair leaking, damaged or burst pipes.
- Repair and replace defective plumbing components.
- Install and maintain hot- and cold-water systems.
- Install and maintain drainage systems.
- Clear blocked pipes, drains and waste systems.
- Investigate and rectify water pressure and flow problems.
- Conduct leak detection and pressure testing where required.
- Inspect plumbing installations for defects, deterioration and potential failures.
- Ensure plumbing systems remain operational and fit for purpose.
- Perform general plumbing alterations and modifications.
- Install, maintain and repair drainage systems.
- Maintain drains, waste pipes, gullies and related infrastructure.
- Clear blocked drains and waste pipes.
- Investigate recurring drainage problems.
- Repair damaged drainage systems.
- Prevent water accumulation and flooding.
- Inspect drainage systems for leaks and deterioration.
- Measure, cut and prepare pipes for installation.
- Thread, bend and fit pipes where required.
- Install pipe fittings, valves, unions, flanges and connections.
- Install and maintain galvanised pipework.
- Respond promptly to plumbing breakdowns and emergencies.
- Diagnose leaks, blockages, pressure problems and other plumbing faults.
- Repair plumbing breakdowns efficiently.
- Minimise disruption caused by plumbing failures.
- Prioritise work according to safety, operational and maintenance requirements.
- Implement temporary repairs where necessary and follow up with permanent repairs.
- Report major breakdowns and recurring problems to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain emergency plumbing tools and materials.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric (essential)
- Plumber Trade Qualified
- 3-5 years experience in store/warehouse/logistic control (essential)
- Strong plumbing knowledge.
- Good knowledge of pipework and fittings.
- Good knowledge of galvanised piping and components.
- Knowledge of corrosion and corrosion protection.
- Understanding of galvanising and galvanised coatings.
- Ability to identify suitable materials for plumbing applications.
- Ability to read basic technical drawings.
- Ability to diagnose plumbing faults.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Good understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
