Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant - Fixed Term Contract

Faircape Health Tokai Estate is a Sub Acute Care and Rehabilitation Centre which provides restorative care and rehabilitation for patients recovering from a variety of medical conditions. We are seeking a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join our team on a Fixed Term Contract, based at Tokai Estate in the Southern Suburbs. The Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant will be responsible for medication control and managing patients' prescriptions for Faircape’s healthcare facilities, under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist.

Role Summary

The successful candidate will support the Faircape Health pharmacy team by accurately preparing, dispensing, and distributing medication, while managing ward and emergency stock and supporting ordering and billing processes.

This is a hands-on clinical role requiring strong attention to detail, adherence to regulatory standards, and the ability to work independently within strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Prescription Preparation & Dispensing

• Interpreting and preparing prescriptions
• Repackaging and distributing medication
• Ordering medicine and scheduled substances as instructed by the Responsible Pharmacist
• Preparing, labelling, and dispensing medication in compliance with pharmacist-reviewed prescriptions
• Alongside the Stock Controller and Admin Manager, managing and monitoring ward stock and emergency trolley supplies
• Replenishing stock in emergency trolleys and cupboards as needed
• Conducting weekly and monthly stock takes, reconciling actual versus system stock, and reporting discrepancies to the Responsible Pharmacist
• Processing medication and consumables billing for sub-acute patients via Clinic Manager
• When required, submitting medical aid claims through Propharm

Requirements

Qualifications and Registrations

• Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

Experience

• Previous hospital experience will be advantageous
• Previous experience with blister packaging would be advantageous
• Previous experience with Propharm and Clinic Manager will be advantageous

Skills and Attributes

Working Hours

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday from 09h00 to 18h00, with 4 hours on alternate weekends.

This position is offered on a Fixed Term Contract.
