Job description
As the Power Platform, AI and Copilot Studio Architect, you will be involved in the design, architecture, governance and delivery of Microsoft Power Platform and Copilot Studio solutions across for external customers.
You will be responsible for creating secure, scalable and reusable solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Power BI, Power Pages and Microsoft Copilot Studio. You will also help shape the approach to AI-powered automation, digital workflows, agent development and Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility.
This role is focused on solution architecture, application development, automation, AI agents, platform governance, customer delivery and technical leadership. Analytics and reporting are important, but they are an enabler rather than the core focus of the role.
Key Responsibilities
Power Platform Architecture and Delivery
You will architect and deliver end-to-end Power Platform solutions aligned to internal business needs and customer requirements.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing and building Power Platform solutions using:
- Power Apps, including Canvas Apps and Model-driven Apps
- Power Automate cloud flows and business process automation
- Dataverse data models, tables, security roles and business rules
- Power Pages for secure external-facing portals
- Power BI integrations and embedded reporting where required
- Copilot Studio agents and conversational AI solutions
- Translating business problems into secure, scalable technical designs.
- Defining solution architecture, data architecture, integration patterns and delivery standards.
- Creating reusable components, templates, frameworks and design patterns.
- Reviewing existing Power Platform solutions and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensuring solutions are built with performance, supportability, security and maintainability in mind.
- Supporting complex Power Platform builds where hands-on technical input is required.
Copilot Studio, AI Agents and Microsoft AI Solutions
You will design and deliver of AI-powered solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio and related Microsoft technologies.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing, building and improving Copilot Studio agents.
- Creating agents that use:
- Topics
- Actions
- Knowledge sources
- Connectors
- Dataverse
- SharePoint
- Microsoft 365 data where appropriate
- External systems and APIs
- Designing agent conversation flows, user journeys and escalation paths.
- Configuring generative answers and knowledge grounding.
- Building AI-powered workflows that combine Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Dataverse and external systems.
- Supporting Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility where agents, connectors or actions can improve user productivity.
- Advising on responsible AI, data access, security boundaries and user permissions.
- Testing AI outputs for accuracy, relevance, security and business suitability.
- Helping customers understand where Copilot Studio, Power Platform and AI can deliver practical value.
Governance, Security and Compliance
You will implement Power Platform governance models that allow innovation without creating unnecessary risk.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing Power Platform environment strategies across development, test, production and customer environments.
- Advising on Managed Environments, environment groups and platform control models.
- Defining and managing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies.
- Designing security models using Dataverse security roles, business units, teams, sharing and least-privilege access.
- Working with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 groups and security teams to ensure correct access control.
- Supporting compliance requirements around data protection, audit, retention and customer data handling.
- Reviewing connector usage, custom connectors and API integrations for security risk.
- Helping define responsible use policies for AI agents, automation and citizen development.
- Supporting licence reviews and advising on Power Platform and Copilot Studio licensing considerations.
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and DevOps
You will establish and maintain strong ALM practices for Power Platform delivery.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing ALM processes using managed and unmanaged solutions.
- Managing solution layering, dependencies, versioning and deployment processes.
- Supporting Power Platform pipelines, Azure DevOps and/or GitHub-based deployment methods.
- Introducing peer review, release control, testing and approval processes.
- Ensuring solutions are stored, documented and deployed in a controlled way.
- Supporting source control and automated deployment where appropriate.
- Defining standards for naming, documentation, ownership and supportability.
- Helping teams move away from uncontrolled one-off builds towards governed, repeatable delivery.
Integrations and Technical Development
You will design and support integrations between Power Platform, Microsoft cloud services and third-party systems.
Responsibilities will include:
- Integrating Power Platform with Azure services, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and external systems.
- Designing and consuming APIs using custom connectors, HTTP actions and Azure services.
- Working with technologies such as:
- Azure Functions
- Azure Logic Apps
- Azure API Management
- Azure Key Vault
- Microsoft Graph
- SharePoint
- SQL Server
- Dataverse
- REST APIs
- Supporting authentication and authorisation patterns, including service principals and Entra ID app registrations.
- Advising when to use low-code, pro-code or hybrid approaches.
Customer-Facing Delivery
You will act as the technical lead on customer Power Platform and Copilot Studio projects.
Responsibilities will include:
- Running discovery sessions and technical design workshops.
- Capturing business requirements and converting them into solution designs.
- Presenting technical options clearly to customers and stakeholders.
- Producing architecture diagrams, statements of work and technical specifications.
- Demonstrating Power Platform, automation and Copilot Studio solutions.
- Leading architecture reviews and design assurance sessions.
- Delivering customer training, handover and post-implementation support.
- Acting as a trusted technical adviser for customer digital transformation and AI adoption projects.
- Supporting pre-sales activity where technical input is required.
Adoption, Centre of Excellence and Continuous Improvement
You will help the organisation scale Power Platform and AI adoption in a safe and structured way.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of a Power Platform Centre of Excellence approach.
- Helping define standards for makers, developers, administrators and support teams.
- Promoting good practice around governance, documentation and solution ownership.
- Reviewing platform usage and identifying risks, duplication or improvement opportunities.
- Supporting internal training and knowledge sharing.
- Keeping up to date with Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure AI developments.
- Recommending new features and technologies where they improve delivery, security or user experience.
Required Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have strong experience in most of the following areas:
- Proven experience designing and delivering Power Platform solutions at scale.
- Strong knowledge of Power Apps, including Canvas Apps and Model-driven Apps.
- Strong knowledge of Power Automate, including cloud flows, approvals, error handling and integration patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Dataverse, including data modelling, security, relationships and solution management.
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, including agents, topics, actions, knowledge sources and connectors.
