Role Overview
The Practice Lead: Digital Learning is a strategic and operational leadership role within Group Learning at The PPS Academy. This manager-level position is primarily responsible for ensuring that PPS employees are equipped with the skills needed to realise value from the organisation’s significant investment in technology. This role is responsible for future-proofing PPS by designing learning paths that enable PPS staff to be highly capable in their current roles and ready for their future ones. The Practice Lead is also responsible for designing, institutionalising, and scaling digital learning, AI enablement, and technology-driven capability building across The PPS Group. The role holder will lead the evolution and implementation of the Digital Astuteness Index (DAI) – a structured, measurable framework defining digital capability applied in day-to-day work. This position drives AI adoption initiatives, manages modern learning platforms including Learning Experience Platforms (LxP), and partners with divisions to build future-ready digital capabilities. Reporting directly to the Chief Learning Officer, the Practice Lead operates in a hybrid work model and wields significant influence across all PPS subsidiaries, shaping how employees confidently, responsibly, and strategically use digital tools to create business value.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Learning & Development, Human Resources, Education, Digital Technologies, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in digital learning design, capability-building roles, or learning technology management.
- Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise-level learning programmes that translate into measurable capability and business impact.
- Demonstrated experience working with learning platforms, Learning Management Systems (LMS), or Learning Experience Platforms (LxP) in organisational settings.
- Experience partnering effectively with senior stakeholders, navigating organisational complexity, and influencing without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, digital learning design methodologies, and competency-based learning frameworks.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts, workplace AI tools (such as Microsoft 365 Copilot), and responsible AI practices.
Prefered requirements
- Postgraduate qualification in Learning & Development, Digital Transformation, Organisational Development, Education Technology, or Strategic Management.
- Direct experience leading AI adoption initiatives, digital transformation programmes, or technology-driven capability building at enterprise scale.
- Exposure to financial services industry, professional membership organisations, or highly regulated environments requiring compliance and governance.
- Experience partnering with external learning providers, vendors, and technology platforms to design blended learning ecosystems.
- Professional certification in learning technologies, instructional design, agile delivery methodologies, or change management frameworks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities
Strategic Digital Learning & Capability Building
- Institutionalise and continuously evolve the Digital Astuteness Index (DAI), ensuring it serves as a credible, measurable framework for building digital capability as a core organisational competency.
- Design and deploy comprehensive digital learning pathways, AI learning curricula, and Microsoft 365 Copilot enablement programmes that translate into applied competence, not just course completion.
- Infuse digital and AI capability throughout organisational touchpoints including employee onboarding, PPS Academy flagship programmes, and role-specific development curricula.
- Extend digital learning initiatives beyond internal employees to internal and external financial advisers and members.
- Facilitate weekly Lunch & Learn sessions focused on various modules from the Digital Astuteness Index dimensions.
- Facilitate quarterly Innovating the PPS Way block sessions, embedding a structured innovation approach using the Mutuality Innovation League methodology.
- Lead the achievement badge system where learners earn DAI Achievement Badges – formal recognition markers demonstrating applied competence within specific DAI dimensions.
- Advise leaders (managers and executives) role-specific digital astuteness in general and future skills in particular.
AI Enablement and Learning Technology
- Lead enterprise-wide AI literacy and adoption initiatives, positioning PPS as a future-focused organisation in digital learning.
- Curate and deploy self-paced learning paths on AI fundamentals and Microsoft 365 Copilot, ensuring employees can use AI tools confidently, ethically, and responsibly.
- Set up, launch, and manage Learning Experience Platforms (LxP) for both internal business users and external audiences including advisers, members, and the general public.
- Manage and continuously develop Kate, an AI Learning Virtual Assistant designed to deliver bespoke learning and development experiences.
- Manage the PPS Academy learning technology stack including platforms such as Go1, Moodle, Joomla, and emerging technologies.
- Partner strategically with Group IT to design and administer mandatory cybersecurity training programmes using platforms such as OutThink.
- Facilitate monthly Induction Digital Citizen Bootcamps ensuring new employees establish digital foundations from day one.
- Enable and support enterprise-wide PPS Systems Training, ensuring employees can navigate critical business applications effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
- Act as the digital learning and AI strategic advisor to Group HR leadership and The PPS Academy leadership team, providing expert guidance on digital tools, emerging technologies, and best practice frameworks.
- Partner collaboratively with divisional teams annually to map future-state capability requirements and advise on relevant learning pathways through consultative engagement with Learning Partners and the Skills Shift Forum.
- Serve Learning & Development governance structures (L&D Manco) by providing best-practice guidelines, frameworks, and thought leadership for continuous digital learning.
- Coach and advise PPS Leaders on becoming digitally astute, helping them model digital dexterity behaviours, drive adoption, and champion technology-enabled innovation.
- Track and report on learner engagement, adoption trends, and capability development using data and insights from all learning platforms including Moodle, Joomla, Kate, ESI, Go1, and Viva Engage analytics.
- Ensure all digital learning initiatives align with PPS values, compliance requirements, and quality standards.
