Position Overview

A prestigious private household in Durban is seeking a professional, experienced and highly reliable Private Chef to manage the daily culinary requirements of a corporate CEO.

The successful candidate must take pride in preparing fresh, nutritious and high-quality meals while maintaining excellent standards of food preparation, kitchen hygiene, organisation and presentation.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable preparing a variety of cuisines, including traditional South African and Indian-style dishes and curries, and must be able to adapt meals according to the CEO’s preferences and dietary requirements.

Discretion, professionalism and confidentiality are essential when working within a private executive household.

Key Responsibilities

1. Private Chef & Culinary Duties

- Plan, prepare and serve fresh, nutritious and high-quality daily meals, primarily breakfast and dinner.

- Prepare meals according to the CEO’s preferences and dietary requirements.

- Prepare a variety of cuisines and dishes, including excellent curries and Indian-style meals.

- Develop weekly menus with a focus on healthy, balanced and quality meals.

- Prepare meals with excellent taste, presentation and attention to detail.

- Purchase and source fresh, high-quality ingredients and groceries.

- Manage household food and grocery inventory.

- Ensure proper food storage and food safety practices.

- Maintain exceptionally high standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.

- Keep the kitchen organised, clean and well maintained at all times.

- Assist with light hosting and beverage service during occasional private meetings or dinners.

- Ensure meals are prepared and served according to the required schedule.

2. Household & Professional Responsibilities

- Maintain a professional and respectful manner within the private household.

- Work independently and manage daily culinary responsibilities with minimal supervision.

- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the CEO, household, visitors, schedules and personal information.

- Demonstrate flexibility when meal requirements or schedules change.

- Ensure all groceries, kitchen equipment and supplies are properly managed.

- Report any issues relating to food supplies, appliances or kitchen equipment promptly.

Minimum Requirements

- Previous experience as a Private Chef, Household Chef, Personal Chef, Restaurant Chef or similar role.

- Excellent cooking skills with the ability to prepare healthy, quality meals.

- Strong ability to prepare curries and Indian-style cuisine is highly advantageous.

- Knowledge of food hygiene, food safety and kitchen cleanliness.

- Ability to plan menus and manage household grocery requirements.

- Excellent time-management and organisational skills.

- Professional appearance and manner.

- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.

- Ability to work flexible hours according to the CEO’s schedule.

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion.

- Contactable references required.

- Valid driver’s licence with own reliable vehicle is preferable.

- Knowledge of Durban, uMhlanga and surrounding areas will be advantageous.

Working Arrangement

Remuneration

Basic Salary: R13685 per month
