Job Advert Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Production Team Leader to oversee daily manufacturing operations and ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of operators, driving productivity, maintaining discipline and compliance with company procedures, and promoting a strong safety culture.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with maths & science(advantageous) as subjects.
- At least two years’ experience in an Automotive manufacturing environment.
- Production Supervisory certificate/Production Management diploma, or the studying towards such a qualification will be an added advantage.
Duties & Responsibilities
Production Process
- Monitor production outputs hourly and takes appropriate action to ensure production standards are being met. Reports output hourly to production supervisor. Corrects any production deviations in consultation with the Production Supervisor.
- Completes and submits production records hourly. Full explanation must be provided for not meeting production and quality standards. Production records must be properly maintained and stored.
- Reports daily to production supervisor on key performances areas such as labour productivity, absenteeism, progress against production plan, rejects, breakdowns and downtime. If authorised to do so undertakes minor repairs to plant and equipment when the need arises. Raises breakdowns and job requests on the maintenance system (Fixit)
- Ensures start-up, running and shut-down procedures are adhered to. Reports any abnormalities to the production supervisor immediately.
- Perform routine operations on production equipment in line with work instructions.
- Ensure manufactured products are prepared for the next production stage or for distribution and/or storage. Notifies Logistics/Quality to move produced/assembled parts whenever a production batch is completed.
- Ensure that finished parts are stacked neatly to facilitate counting and product identification.
- Ensures continuity of workflow at each assigned workstation by visually checking that raw material, sub-assemblies and equipment are available.
- Ensures that all required equipment is available by regularly inspecting equipment at the workstations.
- Operate and monitor performance of production machinery. Prepare, set up and operate production/process equipment in accordance with production plan.
Housekeeping**:**
- Ensure machines and production areas are kept clean and tidy at all times in accordance with 5S principles.
- Foster a culture of accountability among team members to encourage proactive maintenance of workspace and order
Quality Control**:**
- Responsible for ensuring that the quality system requirements and product quality standards are achieved and maintained at all times by the production teams.
- Ensures that workmanship of production meets the quality standards by visually checking on products manufactured and correcting/reporting any deviations. Ensure that rework is undertaken of defective parts and investigates the reasons and proposes methods to eliminate re-occurrences.
Stock Control**:**
- Prepare and counts stock monthly and enters stock sheets for production’s stock report.
- Raises store requisitions through logistics for all parts required in production, also responsible for receiving of raw materials, as per production plan.
- Responsible for production bookings and reconciling it to finished goods.
Reporting**:**
- Ensures all job sheets/production reports are filled in correctly at the end of each shift for productivity calculations and hand over.
- Ensures visual management boards are up to date
SHE**:**
- Conduct continuous risk assessments in the workplace
- Conduct planned task observations
- Identify potential hazards and critical safety issues in the workplace
- Address workplace hazards and risks
- Apply safety, health and environment practises and legal requirements when working on machines and equipment
- Ensures that all safe working procedures are always adhered to. Ensures protective clothing, shoes and glasses are always worn correctly. Ensures that all safety devices on the plant are operating correctly, including lock out tag out.
People Management
- Plans and provides for on the job training and multi-skilling of production teams on a continuous basis. Motivates production operators continuously of correct work practices and provides on the job training of new production operators. Ensures on the job training is effective.
- Initiates discipline by informing production supervisor of poor labour practices such as late coming, unsafe acts and poor performance.
- Monitors time & attendance of the team’s production operators daily. Undertakes to work at other workstations whenever required to do so (absenteeism stand-in).
