REMUNERATION

Grade 1: R 495 423 - R 581 931 per annum, Grade 2: R 607 350 - R 752 913 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre. -A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Peri-operative Nursing.

NOTE

Candidates who are not in possession of the required qualification will be appointed into the general stream, and they will be required to obtain the necessary qualification within a predetermined period of time. Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration to register with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview. This concession is only applicable to candidates who apply for the first time for registration in the post basic qualification Or a post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.

EXPERIENCE

Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse. At least 10 years referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience after obtaining the 1 year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS)

Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape. Ability to function independently, as well as in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure good patient care. Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal). Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of Operating Theatre Unit. Skills to plan organise and the service by analysing problem, problem solving and decision making.

REGISTRATION WITH A PROFESSIONAL COUNCIL

Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.

INHERENT REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

Willingness to work shifts, night duty, overtime, public holidays and weekends to meet the operational requirements.

DUTIES (KEY RESULT AREAS/OUTPUTS)

Render and supervise specialized clinical nursing care and support clinical staff with procedures within the specific clinical specialty unit. Utilise human, material and physical resources and development of self and others. Display core values of the Department of Health and Wellness (WCG)on the execution of duties, while practicing within the legislation, regulations and protocols applicable to the public service. Ensure quality patient care regarding the identification of nursing care needs, the planning and implementation of nursing care plans and the education of nursing personnel as a Professional Nurse in the specific specialty clinical area.
