SUMMARY: Professional Registered Nurse – Palliative Care

POSITION INFO: Professional Registered Nurse - Palliative Care Overview We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for palliative care to provide holistic, patient-centred care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses. The successful candidate will work closely with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality symptom management, emotional support, and care coordination within the community. Minimum Requirements

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Registered Nurse.
• Palliative Care qualification or willingness to complete accredited palliative care training.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualised care plans.
• Provide holistic palliative nursing care, including pain and symptom management.
• Coordinate patient referrals and ongoing care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Liaise with healthcare professionals, hospitals, clinics, and community service providers to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
• Provide education and support to patients, families, and caregivers.
• Participate in bereavement follow-up and refer families for additional support where required.
• Manage clinical administration, reports, statistics, and medical aid motivation letters.
• Assist with quality assurance, clinical audits, and compliance with nursing standards.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Promote awareness of palliative care within the community and support healthcare professionals through education and mentorship.
• Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards relating to nursing practice and medication management. Skills and Competencies
