Job Purpose: Supervise and lecture in isiXhosa and other African languages in the department of African languages. Responsibilities:
Teaching & Learning
- Lecture isiXhosa and methodologies at undergraduate, and PGE at postgraduate level.
- Lecture African languages at Honours level.
Research
- Conduct research and publish at least three accredited research units.
Supervision
- Supervise postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and at PhD level.
Academic Citizenship
- Contribute positively to the departmental administration duties.
- Participate in departmental/faculty activities/committees.
- Provide guidance to junior colleagues.
Community engagement
- Participate in community engagements outside of the university.
Minimum requirements
- PhD in African Languages
- Ten (10) years' of experience as Lecturer
- Ten (10) years’ experience in curricular design
- Teaching of isiXhosa
- Ability to conduct credible research
- Supervision of PG students Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in academic English.
- Good time management skills.
- Good planning and organising skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good listening skills.
- Good conflict management skills.
- Ability to monitor and coach student performance and provide critical feedback in an objective and professional manner.
- Proven ability to think critically, analytically and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary). Recommendations:
- Experience in teaching at the University of Johannesburg.
- Practical experience in the relevant subject disciplines.
- Proven ability to conduct research.
- Research experience in relevant subject disciplines.
- An excellent record of relevant academic publications.
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
- Knowledge of Higher Education Qualifications Framework.
- Departmental/ discipline knowledge regarding the relevant programme(s).
- Online teaching and learning strategies and methods.
