Introduction
Komatsu South Africa is seeking a qualified Project Engineer to join the Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) based in Germiston. The successful candidate will lead and support continuous improvement, process optimisation, warehouse infrastructure, and supply chain efficiency projects to drive operational excellence, service delivery, and cost reduction across the distribution centre.
Qualifications
- BSc / BEng Industrial Engineering (Essential)
- Project Management qualification or certification (Advantageous)
Experience
- Minimum 6 years' experience in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehousing, Distribution, or Manufacturing environments.
- Minimum 3 years' experience leading operational improvement or project-based initiatives.
- Proven experience in process optimisation, warehouse improvement projects, and performance management.
- SAP EWM experience will be an advantage

Summary Description of Role
Industrial Engineering Project Management
- Plan and manage continuous improvement projects within the Parts Distribution Centre.
- Lead project meetings, workshops, and improvement initiatives.
- Develop project charters, timelines, milestones, and implementation plans.
- Track project performance and ensure delivery against agreed objectives.
- Prepare and present project progress reports to management.
- Drive productivity, quality, safety, and cost improvement initiatives.
Process Optimisation & Continuous Improvement
- Analyse warehouse processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct time studies, process mapping, workflow analysis, and capacity assessments.
- Develop and implement Lean and Kaizen initiatives.
- Eliminate waste and improve operational efficiencies across receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch functions.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Establish and monitor operational KPIs and performance measures.
Supply Chain & Distribution Centre Improvement
- Evaluate warehouse layouts and material flow to improve productivity and space utilisation.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, order fulfilment, and service levels.
- Develop solutions to increase throughput while reducing operating costs.
- Support automation and digitalisation initiatives within the PDC.
- Assist with forecasting, labour planning, slotting optimisation, and storage strategies.
- Conduct feasibility studies and business case evaluations for operational improvements.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Extract, analyse, and interpret operational data from SAP and other business systems.
- Develop dashboards and reports to support decision-making.
- Monitor performance trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to management.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
- Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Support, and Finance teams.
- Communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Support change management activities to ensure successful implementation of initiatives.
- Provide coaching and training to operational teams on new processes and best practices.
Systems, Infrastructure & Compliance
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Support warehouse infrastructure and process enhancement projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.
- Maintain measurement systems and audit project outcomes to ensure sustainability.
