Project Management Associate
Olive Tree Consulting Group
Johannesburg, Gauteng
Job description
We are bringing on a Project Management Associate to support our ongoing work with a major financial services group based in Johannesburg. This role is about maintaining the organization and clarity that allows an advisory engagement to run smoothly from start to finish. You will work alongside our consultants to ensure that every decision is tracked and every next step is clearly assigned.
About the Role The Project Management Associate is the primary link within our project teams. In our work, we often find that teams lose momentum not because they lack talent, but because the logistics of their work become heavy. This role exists to lighten that load by providing a steady, reliable rhythm for the project. You will help us manage the small details that prevent big problems, making sure that our clients never have to wonder where a project stands or who owns a particular task. This is a fully remote position that requires a high degree of self-regulation and a commitment to clear communication.
What You Will Do
- Drafting clear, concise meeting summaries that focus on outcomes rather than transcriptions.
- Updating project logs and tracking the progress of specific tasks across different workstreams.
- Setting up digital workspaces and ensuring all project documents are organized and accessible.
- Managing project calendars and coordinating schedules for interviews and workshops.
- Identifying potential gaps in documentation and prompting the team to fill them.
- Formatting reports and summaries to ensure they are readable and direct.
- Monitoring the pace of the project to ensure no deadlines or commitments are overlooked.
- Helping the team maintain a clear record of who is responsible for each part of the work.
What We Are Looking For
- A natural inclination toward order and organization in all aspects of work.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to summarize complex discussions into simple points.
- A calm approach when dealing with new information or changing priorities.
- Reliability in following through on small administrative tasks without being reminded.
- Curiosity about how businesses function and how people work together.
- The ability to work independently in a remote setting while staying connected to the team.
- Patience and a helpful attitude when assisting others with project tools or processes.
- A preference for clarity and honesty over corporate jargon.
Helpful Background
- Basic familiarity with project management software or shared documentation tools.
- Experience in a role that required high care for small details, such as administration, retail coordination, or academic research.
- Studies in business, communications, social sciences, or a related field.
- A comfort level with learning new digital tools quickly and teaching them to others.
- Previous experience working or studying in a remote environment.
- The ability to handle sensitive information with professional discretion.
What We Offer This is a full-time, permanent position that is entirely remote, allowing you to work from a setting that best suits your focus. We provide a competitive salary that is attractive for this entry level role and the current market. You will have the chance to learn the inner workings of a specialized advisory firm and gain exposure to high-level management challenges. We value a quiet, focused work culture where we prioritize doing a few things exceptionally well rather than being constantly busy. You will receive support and mentorship as you build your foundation in project coordination.
About Olive Tree Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth.
We favor practical changes over large-scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.
The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow-up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
