Project Manager – FTTH Telecommunications

Key responsibilities

• Manage FTTH projects from planning through to completion and handover.
• Develop and maintain project programmes, milestones and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate planning, civil works, fibre construction, procurement and field operations.
• Allocate resources according to project requirements and delivery priorities.
• Monitor progress, budgets and actual expenditure against approved plans.
• Deliver Homes Passed targets and maintain required Home Connection (HOC) and quality standards.
• Identify risks, constraints and dependencies, and implement corrective actions.
• Manage contractors and monitor their performance against agreed standards.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, suppliers and internal departments.
• Control project changes and ensure that scope variations are properly authorised.
• Chair project progress meetings when required.
• Ensure completed areas are tested, documented and formally handed over.
• Maintain accurate project files, change records, reports and forecasts.
• Escalate critical cost, programme, quality or delivery issues.
• Support tenders, proposals and new-project scoping activities.
• Capture lessons learned and apply them to future projects.

Minimum requirements

• Matric.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
• Two to four years’ project management experience within FTTH, telecommunications or infrastructure construction.
• Sound knowledge of FTTH network design, civil works and fibre construction processes.
• Experience managing project budgets, programmes and contractor performance.
• A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between project locations. (Include only if applicable.)
• PMP, PRINCE2 or another recognised project-management certification would be advantageous.

Working conditions

• Office-based work with regular site visits and travel.
• Availability to respond to after-hours project escalations when required.
