Proposal Engineer

Job Advert Summary

As a Proposal Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our Sales team by developing high-quality technical and commercial proposals for Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, engineering teams and business development colleagues to develop tailored energy solutions that meet our clients' operational and financial objectives.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng, BSc or BTech qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Energy Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in Solar PV system design, proposals or technical sales support.
• Experience developing commercial and industrial Solar PV proposals.
• Working knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) would be advantageous.
• Proficiency in PVsyst, Helioscope and/or HOMER simulation software.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and Solar PV design principles.
• Experience analysing electricity consumption data and utility tariffs.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and strong numerical ability.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel nationally.
• Comfortable working at heights (training will be provided).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the Sales team throughout the sales and tender process.
• Develop customised technical proposals and feasibility studies for Commercial & Industrial Solar PV and BESS projects.
• Conduct site assessments, roof inspections and technical surveys at customer sites across South Africa.
• Gather and analyse technical information required for accurate system design.
• Understand customer energy requirements and develop optimal renewable energy solutions.
• Analyse electricity consumption profiles, interval data and utility bills to accurately size Solar PV and BESS systems.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, financial analyses and investment proposals.
• Develop system simulations using software such as PVsyst, Helioscope and HOMER.
• Liaise with internal engineering, procurement and commercial teams to ensure proposal accuracy.
• Maintain accurate opportunity, customer and proposal information within the CRM system.
• Support the preparation and submission of tender and bid documentation where required.
• Keep abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies and market trends within the renewable energy sector.
