Job Description Position Summary:

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta’s CP Production & supply team is seeking an experienced Quality Manager at our Brits site in South Africa. This role will be responsible for the day-to-day and quality related activities in the lab and production process following defined work instructions, meeting internal customer expectations, supporting and managing the lab analysts. The successful candidate will need to have an understanding and implement ISO9001 and ISO17025 standards and Syngenta’s HSE & Quality Policy and standards.

Accountabilities:

• Managing daily laboratory operations to ensure reliable analytical services
• Analysing customer complaint samples and special requests samples
• Developing local methods and validating them
• Liaising between various Production Plants regarding the day-to-day quality and laboratory operations
• Advising team leaders on formulations not being Right First Time and when in-process adjustments are required
• Ensuring full functioning, calibration and servicing of all laboratory equipment including site scales
• Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment, a well organised storeroom, recording and storing samples
• Implementing and maintaining ISO 17025 standard requirements
• Conducting internal audits as required by the QMS and ISO 9001 standards to maintain certification
• Ordering of reference materials, reagents, equipment, and consumables
• Carrying out spot checks in the plant to ensure quality of packing
• Ensuring accurate reporting of results both in electronic system and in log sheets
• Assigning tasks, managing shift schedules and balancing workloads for QC analysts
• Training, coaching, support Laboratory Analysts
• Act as a back-up for Laboratory Analysts when required
• Planning and conducting RI training for all personnel on site and ensuring necessary steps required to prevent RI incidents are taken

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an analytical laboratory in a similar or related industry
• Strong Knowledge of ISO 9001/ 17025
• Supervisory or team-lead experience in a laboratory environment
• Knowledge of cross contamination principles and formulation processes.
• Extensive knowledge of techniques/ methodologies in the evaluation of product quality
• Expertise in analytical method development, validation and troubleshooting for Chromatography.
• Proficiency in laboratory systems such as LIMS and SAP
• Internal audit experience under QMS/ ISO requirements
• Medical fitness to perform duties
