Qualified Diesel Mechanic – Mechanical Workshop
Location: Blackheath / Northern Suburbs, Western Cape
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our mechanical workshop in the Blackheath area.
The successful candidate must be a reliable, competent and hands-on diesel mechanic with a strong understanding of commercial vehicles, diesel engines and general mechanical repairs. The position is suited to an individual who takes pride in quality workmanship, works safely and efficiently, and is able to work independently as well as as part of a team.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic / Motor Mechanic with a recognised trade qualification.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in a mechanical workshop environment.
- Must have a valid Code 14 driver’s license.
- Previous experience working on heavy commercial vehicles and trucks.
- Sound knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to identify faults, diagnose mechanical problems and carry out repairs to a high standard.
- Must be able to complete job cards and maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing the duties associated with a mechanical workshop.
- Reliable, punctual, responsible and able to work under pressure.
- Must be willing to comply with the workshop’s policies, procedures and applicable MIBCO / Motor Industry Bargaining Council requirements and conditions of employment.
- Applicants must reside in Blackheath, Saxenburg Park, or the surrounding Northern Suburbs / nearby areas, or be within a reasonable commuting distance of the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, repair and maintain diesel-powered vehicles.
- Perform mechanical inspections and identify faults accurately.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
- Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Conduct vehicle checks and road tests where required.
- Use workshop tools and diagnostic equipment correctly and safely.
- Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas.
- Complete job cards and record parts, labour and work performed.
- Report additional repairs or mechanical defects identified during inspections.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable manufacturer specifications, workshop standards and safety requirements.
- Work cooperatively with workshop management and other technicians.
- Follow all applicable MIBCO and workplace policies and procedures.
