Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Experience Required)

F-David's Transport Services (Pty) Ltd t/a D-TRANS is seeking a skilled and reliable Qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its workshop team in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel vehicles, workshop, and related equipment to high operational and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot reported or identified vehicle faults accurately.
• Carry out vehicle servicing, repairs, and preventive maintenance efficiently and to the required standard.
• Service vehicles.
• Conduct road tests on repaired vehicles when required.
• Report any additional faults identified that are not recorded or reported by the drivers.
• Perform routine maintenance checks, including oil levels, air brakes, lubrication, batteries, nuts and bolts, and other relevant components.
• Ensure that all vehicles, machinery, and equipment remain in safe and good working order.
• Create and maintain preventive-maintenance and service schedules.
• Communicate effectively with operations managers regarding servicing requirements, repairs, and vehicle availability.
• Implement and manage workshop, service logs, and other workshop records.
• Maintain, control, and conduct regular stock takes of workshop parts, consumables, tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Source and procure parts at the best available price while maintaining required quality standards.
• Perform mechanical repairs, diagnostics and fault-finding as required.
• Train staff on the correct and safe use of vehicles.
• Maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping, organisation, safety, security, and quality control.
• Monitor workshop costs and assist with budgeting and project costing.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and operational procedures.

Skills and Experience

• Applicants should demonstrate strong technical competence and a practical, results-oriented approach to work.
• At least 3–5 years' experience in a diesel mechanic role or a similar position. Reference checks will be conducted.
• Sound knowledge of diesel engines, vehicle servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and fault-finding.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
