Qualified Diesel Mechanic

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Diesel Mechanic role based in Thabazimbi. The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems. Daily tasks include performing scheduled preventive maintenance, conducting safety checks, identifying mechanical faults, and completing accurate service records. The role involves responding to equipment breakdowns, troubleshooting issues in the field, and ensuring all work complies with safety and environmental standards. The Diesel Mechanic will collaborate with supervisors and operators to prioritize repairs, minimize downtime, and keep equipment in optimal working condition.

Qualifications

• Strong Diesel Mechanics skills with experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems
• Proficiency in Vehicle Maintenance, including routine inspections, servicing, and repairs
• Hands-on Equipment Maintenance experience across various mechanical and hydraulic systems
• Experience on Earth Moving Equipment Machinery including proven experience working on Dump Trucks and Excavators.
• Trade certificate as a Diesel Mechanic or equivalent
• Proven experience in a workshop or field service environment, preferably in heavy industry or mining
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and safe work practices
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and service instructions
• Willingness to learn
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and with site management
• Physical ability to perform hands-on mechanical work, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces
• Valid driver’s license; additional certifications for heavy vehicles or equipment operation are an advantage
