Job description
VACANCY: QUALIFIED DIESEL / TRUCK MECHANIC
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Diesel Mechanic / Truck Mechanic to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, fault finding and repairs of our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Service, maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out necessary repairs
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled services
- Repair and maintain engines, gearboxes, braking systems, suspension and other mechanical components
- Identify faults before they result in major breakdowns
- Attend to truck breakdowns when required
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections and ensure trucks are roadworthy
- Inspect trailers and attend to mechanical repairs where required
- Keep accurate records of services, repairs and parts replaced
- Report vehicle defects and required repairs to management
- Assist with sourcing the correct parts and components
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
✔ Must be a qualified Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
✔ Must have proven experience working on heavy-duty trucks
✔ Experience working on Mercedes-Benz Actros, Volvo and FAW trucks will be highly advantageous
✔ Good knowledge of diesel engines, gearboxes, air-brake systems, suspension and electrical fault finding
✔ Experience working on Superlink trailers will be advantageous
✔ Must be able to diagnose faults independently
✔ Must have a valid driver's licence
✔ Must be reliable, punctual and able to work without constant supervision
✔ Must have contactable references
✔ Must be prepared to assist with breakdowns when required
Location: Ottery / Southern Suburbs, Cape Town
Candidates residing close to the Southern Suburbs will be given preference.
