About TallOrder Solutions: TallOrder Solutions is a leading fintech startup specialising in cloud-based solutions for the retail and hospitality industries. As a dynamic startup, we offer a unique environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on our growth and success. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative culture that encourages continuous learning, innovation, and growth.

Why Join TallOrder Point of Sale?

Growth and Learning Opportunities: Be part of a startup where your contributions directly influence the company’s trajectory. Enjoy opportunities for rapid advancement and continuous learning, with access to the latest technologies and development practices.

Innovative Tech Stack: Work with modern technologies, including AWS Serverless architecture and Go, and be at the forefront of industry trends.

Supportive Culture: Join a team that values collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement, with a commitment to work-life balance.

Impact and Ownership: Take ownership of critical projects, lead initiatives, and see your ideas come to life in our products and services.

Hybrid Work Environment: Enjoy the flexibility of working mostly remotely, with occasional in-office days for collaboration and team-building.

Role Overview:

As Quality Assurance Consultant, you are responsible for the day-to-day testing quality of TallOrder’s product suite, working within the test plans and standards set by the Product team. You take full ownership of executing, documenting, and reporting on testing for your assigned releases, and are expected to investigate defects in enough depth to give engineering a clear, well-evidenced starting point — even where you’re not expected to diagnose the underlying root cause unaided. This role sits between junior and senior QA: you work with a good degree of independence on execution and day-to-day judgement calls, while strategy, scope, and sign-off decisions are set in collaboration with the Product Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Management & First Response: Execute test plans and testing strategy defined by the Product team, suggesting refinements where you see gaps in coverage.

Lead Routing & Coordinatio: Investigate and document defects with enough detail for engineering to reproduce and diagnose — including your own hypothesis on likely cause where possible, querying the database directly where useful to confirm data-level issues.

CRM Ownership & Data Integrity: Estimate and track testing timelines for your assigned work, and flag schedule risk early to the Product Manager.

Pipeline Management: “Break” products before customers do — design scenario and edge-case tests that go beyond the documented user stories.

Sales & Marketing Alignment: Carry out cross-platform testing across web and native/mobile apps (Windows, Android, iOS) as directed by the test plan.

Campaign & Funnel Insights: Perform functional testing against defined user stories and business logic, with strong hands-on debugging ability.

Billing & Admin Coordination: Contribute to and help maintain manual and automated test coverage, working with existing frameworks and tooling.

Internal Coordination: Help define scope of testing for each release/delivery in collaboration with the Product Manager.

Reporting & Insights: Assist in preparing and maintaining the test environment, including test data setup.

Process Optimisation: Identify, log, and track defects, issues, and risks via Freshdesk and JIRA, with clear reproduction steps.

Test Plan & Suite Stewardship: Maintain test plans, requirements documentation, and regression test suites for your area.

Repetitive Regression Execution: Execute repeatable regression tests whenever software components change, and document results consistently.

Industry Standards Vigilance: Keep up to date with evolving industry testing standards and practices.

After-Hours Support Rotation: Participate in an on-call after-hours support rotation (evenings and weekends) alongside support staff, as required.

Pre-Release Feature Validation: Validate implemented features against business requirements, acceptance criteria, and expected user workflows before release.

End-User Experience Triaging: Perform basic usability, reliability, and performance testing to identify issues that may impact the end-user experience.

Defect Evidence Capture: Capture screenshots, videos, logs, and other supporting evidence to accompany defect reports where appropriate.

Cross-Functional Quality Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Development, and Support teams to reproduce issues, verify fixes, and continuously improve product quality.

UAT Triage & Fix Verification: Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by assisting with defect triage, issue validation, and testing of reported fixes.

Regression & Fix Integrity Checks: Verify that resolved defects have been fully fixed and that changes have not introduced regressions into existing functionality.

Test Suite Expansion & Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of manual and automated regression test suites, following established testing frameworks and quality standards.

Requirements:

Experience: Solid hands-on QA experience (beyond entry-level), ideally including exposure to SaaS, POS, or retail/hospitality software.

CRM Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to test independently against user stories and business logic without close supervision.

Data & Reporting: Experience investigating defects in enough depth to give engineering a useful starting point for root-cause analysis.

Commercial Awareness: Working experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g. JIRA, Freshdesk, or equivalent).

Communication: Some exposure to test automation tools/frameworks, with willingness to build on this.

Organisation: Experience testing across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms (Windows, Android, iOS) an advantage.

Relational Database & SQL Proficiency: Working understanding of relational databases and basic SQL — able to write simple queries to investigate data (e.g. stock movements, sync records) when diagnosing defects.

Analytical & Process-Driven Mindset: Strong analytical, methodical, and process-driven approach with excellent attention to detail.

Ownership & Escalation Balance: Comfortable taking ownership of assigned testing work while escalating strategic or scope decisions appropriately.

Key Attributes:

– Out-of-the-box thinker who can anticipate real-world user behaviour and edge cases.

– Clear written communicator — able to produce well-evidenced defect reports that engineering can act on directly.

– Reliable and process-driven, with the judgement to know when to flag something up rather than resolve it alone.

What We Offer

– A competitive market-related salary.

– An opportunity to be a key player in a growing technology company.

– A flexible, dynamic work environment in the beautiful South African winelands.
