Job description
We are a growing South African company specialising in spices, spice blends, whole foods and dry-food products. We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Quality Controller / Food Safety Officer to take responsibility for maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and product quality.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on environment, working closely with production and warehouse teams, and wants to play an important role in ensuring that safe, quality products reach our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor food-safety, hygiene and quality-control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable South African food-safety requirements, including R638, HACCP and GMP principles.
- Conduct regular inspections of production, packing and warehouse areas.
- Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging for quality, quantity, damage, contamination and correct documentation.
- Monitor product quality, weights, packaging, labelling, batch coding and traceability.
- Maintain food-safety, quality-control and inspection records.
- Identify and manage non-conforming products.
- Assist with customer complaints, corrective actions, recalls and traceability exercises.
- Monitor cleaning, hygiene and pest-control standards.
- Assist with staff food-safety training and maintaining a strong food-safety culture.
- Assist with stock receiving, stock counts and updating inventory records.
- Monitor FIFO/FEFO stock rotation and investigate stock discrepancies.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, food packing, FMCG, spices or dry foods.
- Experience in quality control and/or food safety.
- Knowledge of HACCP and GMP.
- Good understanding of food hygiene requirements.
- Computer literate, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
Advantageous: Food Technology/Food Science qualification, HACCP or Food Safety certification, Internal Auditor training, and experience with ISO 22000/FSSC 22000/BRCGS.
Pay: R15 000,00 - R18 000,00 per month
