Our manufacturing division specialises in precision CNC turning and milling, fabrication, and in-house CAD/CAM design, supporting projects from prototypes through to production.

As our manufacturing operations continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Quality Control Officer to join our team.

Role Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Quality Control Officer will be to inspect and verify CNC-milled and CNC-turned components produced by Ridgeback against the relevant technical engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and specifications.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a precision engineering environment and must have a strong understanding of dimensional inspection and engineering measuring equipment.

This is a hands-on manufacturing QC position, rather than a welding inspection, NDT or metallurgical laboratory role.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Inspecting CNC-milled and CNC-turned components against issued engineering drawings.
• Reading and accurately interpreting technical engineering drawings.
• Checking dimensions, tolerances and other specified requirements.
• Using appropriate precision measuring equipment to verify manufactured components.
• Identifying and reporting dimensional or manufacturing non-conformances.
• Recording inspection results and maintaining appropriate quality documentation.
• Communicating quality issues with machinists, production personnel and management.
• Conducting in-process and final inspections where required.
• Ensuring components meet drawing specifications before being approved.
• Assisting the manufacturing team in identifying the causes of dimensional discrepancies.
• Maintaining measuring equipment and ensuring it is handled and stored correctly.
• Supporting continuous improvement of Ridgeback's manufacturing and quality processes.

Requirements

Essential:

• 2–5 years' relevant Quality Control / Quality Inspection experience, preferably within a machining, precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances and engineering specifications.
• Practical experience using relevant precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to inspect machined components accurately and independently.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good problem-solving ability.
• Ability to communicate quality concerns clearly with production personnel.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for inspection results.

Experience with equipment such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges and similar precision measuring equipment will be advantageous.

Highly Advantageous

Candidates with any of the following will have a strong advantage:

• Draftsman / draughtsman experience
• Experience creating or working extensively with engineering drawings
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM design software
• Experience with Fusion 360 or similar CAD/CAM platforms
• Previous experience within a CNC turning and/or CNC milling environment
• Experience with more advanced dimensional inspection equipment or CMM systems

Important – Please Note

This vacancy is specifically for dimensional and manufacturing quality control of CNC-machined components.

We are not currently looking for welding inspectors, NDT inspectors or metallurgical laboratory technicians for this position.

Candidates should therefore have experience relevant to engineering drawings, machined components, tolerances and dimensional inspection.
