Job description

The MHE driver is responsible for performing various manual tasks in the warehouse and ensuring that the workspace is clean, organised, and efficient. This role supports warehouse operations by assisting with receiving, storing, packing, and dispatching goods, with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance with NBCRFLI standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Warehouse Operations:

  • Operates trucks & tractors for the purpose of moving containers between vessels and yard operations.
  • Conducts operations in a safe manner to ensure all work procedures and safety codes are followed, to prevent injury to all personnel and damage to equipment.
  • Carry out all routine pre and post inspection on equipment for operational conditions and ensure any defects are reported immediately.
  • Report immediately any safety hazards during operations and if necessary stop until such are rectified.
  • Report immediately any damage sustained during operations by equipment.
  • Report immediately any equipment malfunction and assists maintenance when necessary
  • Maintain continuous operation by using “hot seat” changeover at shift changeover times and for operator rest break changeover.
  • Maintain the drivers cabin & other spaces in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • Follow work queue instructions & adhere to speed limits & traffic flow regulations.
  • Ensure equipment has sufficient fuel at all times and adhere to refuelling schedule.
  • The key impact of this incumbent is the execution of day to day operational activities.

Inventory Management:

  • Conduct stock counts as required, ensuring accuracy and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Assist with the packaging and labelling of goods for dispatch.
  • Report damaged or missing inventory to supervisors promptly.
  • Parcelling, wrapping, or tying goods.

Housekeeping and Safety:

  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace, ensuring all areas are free of hazards.
  • Cleaning goods, containers, premises, pallets, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Removing, replacing, or repairing packing cases, crates, and pallets by hand.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols in the warehouse, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
  • Participate in safety drills and report any unsafe conditions to management.

General Support:

  • Assist with other tasks, as needed, to support warehouse operations.
  • Adhere to all NBCRFLI policies, including compliance with labour regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Someone with:

  • Requires at least two years of heavy vehicle driving or similar work experience in a commercial environment.
  • Must have complete understanding of operating heavy vehicles.
  • Must have some understanding of container terminal operations, including yard movements and other yard handling equipment.
  • Must have a heavy vehicle drivers license. Forklift operators licence will also be helpful.
  • Understands safety regulations, safe working procedures and safe materials handling procedures and follows safety and work instructions.
  • Understands and observes safety requirements for driving heavy vehicles within a disciplined environment.

  • Attention to Detail : Ensures accurate product placement and inventory tracking.
  • Safety Awareness : Prioritises safe operation and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Communication : Effective verbal communication to work with other team members and supervisors.
  • Physical Stamina : Ability to lift, move, and stack heavy items as part of daily tasks.
